Which do you think is better? Why?

message 2: by Daria (new)

Daria (dariarp) i got to a private school, but i guess its kinda nice cuz i think there is a lot less "drama" here... i dont think anyway cuts themselves or take drugs (well, there are probably a few boys in my grade who im 90% sure do... :P)

★RavenclawReader★ (stargazer101) | 94 comments Public School, although I'm a bit biased :D. There's more diversity (at least in my experience. I went to private school for two years.) I'm moved 7 times and at every public school I've been to, nobody cuts themselves or takes drugs...

I think public schools are better. I love the diversity of personalities, lifestyles, and hobbies. Though I do have to admit there has definitely been some drugs, alcohol, cutting etc. but that's easily avoidable. I feel that public schools aren't as biased towards things because the public schools systems are open and welcoming. There are people who will fit absolutely anybody's personality, you just have to know where to look for them. There can be a lot of drama sometimes, but that's what makes it fun!

mercy (mercyem) | 705 comments I'm homeschooled, so honestly, I have no idea, but one of my brothers goes to a private school, and it seems really cool! I'm sorta biased to homeschooling though cuz its more chill and stuff (I can stay in my pajama's all daaaaay! XD) so I'll probably homeschool my kids, but honestly thats just cuz I've been homeschooled my whole life :D

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

I like private schools, but I guess that's only because I've been going to private schools my entire life and never experienced a public school. And I think private schools and public schools are mostly similar other than the fact you have to pay for one and not for the other. In private schools you are still going to get cliques, drama, cutting, drugs, some pretty ugly stuff. A lot of people in my grade have been doing some stuff lately that they really shouldn't be doing at our age (Or, at any age for that matter. ;p)

Public schools are pretty chill in their dress codes. I could go to school in pretty much anything I want, including pj's haha

literariel Public schools have different rules than private schools.

Private schools are different than public schools in terms of what you study.

It all really depends on... well... what you feel more comfortable with.

message 9: by Allie (new)

Allie | 457 comments They both have pros and cons. I go to a public school so I kind of have a biased opinion. Although one of my friends does go to a private school, it's a religious school but it's a private school. And she says that there is a lot less drama than we have a public schools. I kind of want to go to a private school so I can avoid all the drama my friends pull me into.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Well I've gone to 3 different private schools in my life and there has been drama at ALL of them. I even went to one religious one for a while (from kindergarten to 4th grade) even though i'm not religious and there was drama there too. But i'd have to say this school i'm going to now has the most drama. I guess it kind of comes with the material of being a 7th Grader. :p

message 11: by Marrie (new)

Marrie As someone who has been to both, I think both have pros and cons. Theres drama at both. It's the inevitable if you put a bunch of teenagers together. BUT, I personaly felt there was a lot more in my public school. Not all schools are the same though. I like public schools because of the diversity and the fact that you can wear anything you want. However, wearing what you want can also be a bad thing when kids get bullied to the extent of suicide for what they wear. A bad thing about private schools though is that there are so many rules, some even seem kind of pointless. You get detention for little things. All in all, I feel both have there good and bad and think it's up to you and your parents which you chose to go to.

message 12: by literariel (new)

literariel It also really depends on the grade.

For example, 6th graders might have drama about what clothes to wear or who they "like like".

As a senior, we have a lot more condensed drama, such as, "She's cheating on him!" or "Ooh, they like each other, they're both sitting next to each other!"

Either way, it's really mostly about love and fitting in from 6th grade on.

message 13: by Marrie (new)

Marrie True. It's especially about crushes and clothes in middle school. In high school it's more about dating, sex, and sometimes pregnancy drama.

message 14: by literariel (new)

literariel ^^^ Exactly.

annie (smithan) | 40 comments public because going to a private school makes no difference to your education and just makes you anti-social.
and public school a just a hell of a lot more fun!!!!!!!

message 18: by mercy (new)

mercy (mercyem) | 705 comments It doesn't make you anti-social! Because I'm homeschooled, and I know a lot of people, besides my family. I actually know public schoolers.. wow, what a thought!

it does make you anti-social. i have most of my cousin go too private school, they don't have any friends and they don't talk to anyone not even each other.

Ha ha... I go to a public school and a ton of people cut themselves/ do drugs. One time I was on the bus and people started doing drugs in the back of the bus... As if the bus driver wouldn't notice. But there's a lot of people who take hard classes and do sports here and I hang out with them :) Over half of our school does at least one sport... Small town haha

message 21: by Ela (new)

Ela I've always been to public schools and I like them (as much as you can like school) We can't where are own clothes (until 6th form) so the whole issue of slef expresion/bullying dosen't affect us as much as it might you guys in the States.

Also my friend went to a private school for a while and she was really badly bullied (because she was on a scholarship) and had to leave. I know of someone else who's parents didn't tell her she was on a scholarship, so as to avoid her being bullied. So this has made me a little biased against public schools.

Nikki Sojkowski (nikkisoj) | 938 comments Mod
Hmmm the bullies should think about it this way, the school is giving them a scholarship because they earned it and the school actually WANTS them there because the paying mostly super rich students AREN'T GOOD ENOUGH.

Although there's drama a lot at my public school, I honestly haven't encountered any bullying, wether about clothes, looks, status, etc.

Whaa? That's kind of stereotypical. I go to a private school and I have lots of friends. In fact every weekend I hang out with friends and stuff. I really don't think private schools are that much different than public schools other than the fact that private schools tend to have a few more rules.
