message 2: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59947 comments Soooo - how many books a week do you read, Kimberly? :)

message 3: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments Not that many maybe 5-7. A lot of the ones I get turn out to be duds, or I cant get into them. Others I get for my mom, brother or Darren to read before/and or after me.

message 4: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4535 comments I requested The Dressmaker and Ghost Story for my libray. Picked them up today. Just started The Dressmaker. That'll make a violet read for my Rainbow.

Ah, good one, Judy. My grandson was telling me that they were studying ants in his 2nd grade class at school last week. I put it on my TBR list.

Happy birthday Janice! My mom and I hope you have a wonderful day! :)

message 8: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59947 comments Thanks for the birthday wishes Amanda & Judy. It's been a rather interesting day so far. I'm headed to a Christmas Party this evening and that will be a great way to end the day. :)

message 9: by Jkmays (new)

Jkmays Amanda, I hope you enjoy The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind...I really did, although I cheated and skipped over the scientific part, which meant nothing to me...haha

message 10: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Yay Happy Birthday Janice. Enjoy the Christmas Party. Just do what my mum and my brother do (she's the 10th, he's the 12th) and just reclaim it as your own party.

Amanda Jkmays wrote: "Amanda, I hope you enjoy The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind...I really did, although I cheated and skipped over the scientific part, which meant nothing to me...haha"

I am enjoying it, almost halfway through, just getting into the scientific part. So far it's very interesting, I love books about different cultures.

Thanks. It was fun. I laughed so hard I wondered if I'd damaged my insides. Tonight, my daughter-in-law and grandkids are taking me to a movie for my birthday. It will even be more "my night".

I have a friend whose birthday is the 12th. We're going to do a joint celebration on the 14th (she's just had oral surgery so we decided to hold off till she could chew). So the b-day celebrations are spread out. I'll be singing "The 12 days of birthdays"

It took me a little while to get into Everything Beautiful, and there are some slow parts, but I thought it was worth it. When I sat back and considered the whole story, it was very moving. There are parts that are written so beautifully that you want them to stay in your mind.

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I loved From Baghdhad!

I've been afraid to open this topic, and I was right, it's too dangerous! There are too many interesting books that I'll have to add to my tbr :)

Janice (jamasc) | 59947 comments Judy, I was looking today to see if The Serpent's Tale was available on audiobook. If it is, it's not available in Canada. I do want to finish that series!

message 35: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59947 comments Kimberly, is the second book about love, lust, and faking it for the Feb Toppler?

I was looking through the books from the library, and I noticed that the Baghdad book I got was From Baghdad to America Life Lessons from a Dog Named Lava by Jay Kopelman instead of From Baghdad, With Love A Marine, the War, and a Dog Named Lava by Jay Kopelman . I don't know if I requested the wrong one, or if they substituted it. Now, I am waiting for From Baghdad, With Love: A Marine, the War, and a Dog Named Lava again. I want to read the 1st one before I read the 2nd one.

Nope :) I don't think I'll be joining the toppler this time.

message 38: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59947 comments That's too bad. If you find yourself reading something during that week that fits any of the tasks, you could still count it. (I was going to say fake it in honour of the book you borrowed from the library.)

Oh, I want to read these, too. Have to figure out when I can fit it in is all. I keep adding and adding to my TBR list since joining this group!

Oh, Kimberly! We'll miss you. It's a week long, see if you can fit some reading in.

message 41: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4031 comments And I was so overwhelmed visiting my library after two whole months (and paying a fine of $3) that I forgot about the alphabet challenge as well as the toppler. So I was stupid enough to get The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender The Difference Between You and Me by Madeleine George The Calling (Darkness Rising, #2) by Kelley Armstrong After the Snow by Sophie D. Crockett . Do any of these fit the toppler? I hope they do, I won't be going to the library anytime soon now.

message 42: by April (new)

April | 970 comments Oh TJanet! It is a never ending battle to get all those books off of our TBR shelves. The less you fight it, the better off you are. The list just keeps growing and growing, and growing........

GR acting funny, not letting me use the add book/author feature.

Thanks Jmom and Judy, those two books go on my toppler list then. :)

Thanks for the offer, J'mom. I found out the hard way that the postage rates can be higher than the book. I will read it in ebook or paperback format.
