What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

Read this book a long time ago and can only remember small details.
I'm not sure if the man was found or purposely made but his mind is like a child, he isn't disabled, he just hasn't mentally matured. I think there is a part where he is found naked.
Some sort of organization, I believe it's the government? Raises him and tries to teach him with different techniques. They show him things on the television and he wants to go outside but they won't let him. He has a common male name which I think is possibly the book title.

This is a long-shot, but there is Stranger in a Strange Land. The main character was not raised by humans, but by Martians. When he is brought back to earth as a young man, he is physically adult, but extremely child-like in his interactions. He is held by the government in a hospital, until rescued. And the tale begins...

That was going to be my guess as well. The main character's name is Valentine Michael Smith.

I read it about 5 years ago but it was an older book.
And thanks for your help but it isn't either of those books :(

A few questions that might jog loose some more memories: Do you remember anything about the cover? Hardback or paperback? Long or short? Do you recall how old the main character was? Would you say it was aimed at kids, YA, or adults? Do you recall if there were any fantasy or sci fi elements (like, does the guy turn out to be an alien), or was it just government conspiracy/suspense? Do you recall if it had a happy ending or sad one?
