Adam | 4 comments Hello!
Since my girlfriend gave me a hand-painted dwarf figure as a present, I fell in love with this race once again. So my question is - could you suggest any good books with plot that centers around dwarves? I've already read the Gortek & Felix books.
Cheers!

Mpauli The Dwarves by Markus Heitz. It's a german author and the series consists of 4 books. I'm not sure, if all are translated already, but they are definitinely very dwarven.

Brenda Clough (brendaclough) | 964 comments And the adventures of Miles Vorkosigan. Who does not allow you to call him a dwarf, but he is very short.

S.B. Nichols | 1 comments Adam the Dragonlance series by Margret Wies and Tracy Hickman is not exclusively about dwarves but one of the main characters is a dwarf and their adventure takes them to a delve. This series is what made me fall in love with Dwarves.

Charlie (cdtaylornats) | 20 comments Thud is the discworld novel which might be best for dwarves although they show up in most of the series.

Greg Strandberg (gregstrandberg) | 0 comments You know, I read the old D&D Player Character book on Dwarves cover to cover at least 3 times. It's darn good!

The Complete Book of Dwarves by Jim Bambra The Complete Book of Dwarves

Jacks | 8 comments If you like the Dragonlance series, you might want to try the Death Gate Cycle series by the same authors. Like Dragonlance, it doesn't focus on dwarves, but they're there and cool.

Hillary Major | 127 comments Yep, I thought of the Death Gate Cycle when I saw this topic, just didn't know if you'd find them dwarf-centric enough.

Mary Catelli | 1009 comments Of Sorcery and Snow by Shelby Bach features many important dwarf characters; however, it is the third book in the series.

Trike In comic form, one of the two main characters of Skullkickers is a dwarf. This is a tremendously fun and well-written comic and I think you can read it all for free online.

Start here.

Benjamin (beniowa79) | 383 comments A couple people have mentioned Dragonlance, but instead of reading the main DL books by Weis and Hickman I'd suggest two trilogies that focus exclusively on dwarves. The Dwarven Nations trilogy by Dan Parkinson featuring The Covenant of the Forge, Hammer and Axe, and The Swordsheath Scroll; and the Dwarf Home trilogy by Douglas Niles consisting of The Secret of Pax Tharkas, Heir of Kayolin, and Fate of Thorbardin.

Brenda Clough (brendaclough) | 964 comments If you don't insist on Tolkien style dwarves, have a look at MISTRESS MASHAM'S REPOSE, by T.H. White.

Ruben | 1 comments You should try the R.A. Salvatore Series The Legend of Drizzt. If you only want to focus on the books that have more Dwarven POV read Streams of Silver, Seige of Darkness, The Lost Drow, The Orc King, Thousand Orc Pass, Night of the Hunter, Rise of the King, and the Gauntlgrym series. These books all have amazing Dwarven POV's and are rich in detail regarding dwarven gods and there homeland. For me these books were the best in the 28+ book series and I fell in love with them so much I hunger for any books regarding dwarves. Also the Inheritance cycle by Christopher Paolini is pretty good all 4 books have good Dwarven POV's.

Which of the Drizzt series should a first time reader start with? I am looking on Amazon, and it's rather confusing to know which is the best book to begin with. I am thinking of Gauntlgrym, but willing to start in the best place.

Robin | 142 comments Karen I'd recommend starting with the Dark Elf trilogy. The first book is called Homeland. This trilogy details Drizzt's background and how he became the way he is, more importantly it gives a lot of detail on dark elves as a race. It was very interesting. It also details how Drizzt became such a good swordsman. Also Salvatore goes into detail about Drizzt's family. Hope you enjoy.
