The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue discussion

Hi guys! Here we are going to comment the book. I was thinking we can discuss it every 5 chapters if you like.
I don't know about you but this is one of my most anticipated books of the years and I'm really excited!

I like Monty even though he is a total mess. And yes this feels historical for upper YA.
Its also including racism and women's rights which is fantastic.

Hi guys! I'm liking the book so far, though I have to admit that when I started I had forgotten what it was about (Historical fiction? Time travel??). But I do like Monty, yes he's a bit of a mess... a horny mess lol but I rather like him! I have no idea where the story is going though, what about you guys?

do you guys like the writing style? I don't think I do :/ i can't connect with Monty. perhaps in third person would have been better

I'm no native either but I think the problem may be Monty. Different narrators or an omniscient one would have been better

I've read up to chapter 10.
I like the fact that everyone calls out on Monty's privilege. Literally every character is more interesting than he is. Poor Percy though.

It's good that they call him out on it but, if well I think this is meant to be like Monty's character development so he can realize he's not the center of the universe... I don't really get why he's the main character when there are so many other cool ones in the story :/

YES! the chapters are long and the writing is kinda dense too

It has improved a little but I still don't understand why everyone gave it 5 stars?

I agree. just because a book is diverse it doesn't mean that it is automatically good.

I'm on chapter 30 but still the story can't seem to grab me. How are you guys doing?

I liked this a lot and gave it four stars. Best "YA" book I've ever read. Hilarious, and maybe, just maybe, there is TRUE LOVE, although we don't know (in this first book of the series) if the two guys have a sexual relationship.

Bookish, good point. But I think the author was trying to bring attention to all the different types of relationships there are in this world. Yes, absolutely, there are people who love each other, who might even live and sleep with each other, but don't have sex. Then there are people all over the sexual spectrum. By they way, I read this is one day.

And the next one is on the way! I think the title is "The Ladies Guide to Petticoats and Prudence", or something like that, and the doctor/sister is the narrator. By the way, no, I don't think the guys further their relationship any further than loving each other on a platonic level, and in truth, that's very tough for a lot of guys.

I'm done with it and I think it was...meh. It was fine. It's not bad, but it's not great either y'know? The romance wasn't that great or didn't get me emotionally invested and I think the plot is all over the place.
I like Felicity though.

Wasn't that impressed with story. It was good, but the hype let me down.
