Groot – Jeff Loveness (illustrated by Brian Kesinger)

Hmmm. Really don’t know what to say about this graphic novel / comics collection starring a talking tree with limited vocabulary, and a perpetually irritated Rocket Raccoon.

Clearly I’m not the target audience, but I think I see the appeal. The illustrations are colorful and advance the action. I particularly like how Kesinger gives Groot so many emotions in the illustrations. On the other hand, I was quickly bored by the repetitive “I am Groot” with Rocket or other characters supplying the rest of the dialogue. Reminded me a little of those comedy sketches Bob Newhart was so good at, where you hear only one side of the conversation, but clearly understand the other half.

Oh well, it satisfied the tag and took my mind off my troubles for an hour.

Jenni Elyse (jenni_elyse) Have you watched either of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies? Rocket and Groot are my favorite, lol. But, I think it would be hard to read his "I am Groot." I like hearing his intonations in the movies. It plays like he's saying more than just "I am Groot."

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8422 comments Nope - never seen the movies. Like I said ... not the target audience.

Ladyslott | 1880 comments I love Guardians of the Galaxy, but I agree with Jenni - even though that is all he says, I think in the movie his intonations make it mean more.

Joi (missjoious) | 3970 comments I have this waiting for me at home for this tag. I'm hoping "getting" the repetitive "I am Groot" will be much more enjoyable and funny when you've seen the movie.

No problem. I was just curious if you had.

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments I also can see where the same words would get redundant. But man, I adore these movies and those three little words are the basis of my favorite character! Unless Chris Pratt is shirtless and then HE is my favorite character.

P.S. RIP Pratt-Faris marriage

I am so sad about this. They were so perfect together. But it does mean Chris Pratt is available.

LOVE IS DEAD!!! Haha, just kidding, but really. I'm thinking/hoping it's just because they're both just such hard workers they never saw each other- gotta be hard to be in a relationship when you never see each other.

In other news, does anyone know where can I send my application to date Chris Pratt?
