I'm also excited for:
Before Mars
Dragon Pearl

The ones I'm mostly waiting for right now are almost here:
The Night Masquerade
Beneath the Sugar Sky

message 14: by Bill (new)

Bill | 197 comments I’m not very big on new releases and had a very hard time fitting them into my schedule this year. The one that I am very much looking forward to is The Infernal Battalion by Django Wexler. It’s the 5th and final book in his Shadow Campaigns series.

message 15: by Esther (last edited Dec 26, 2017 12:14PM) (new)

Esther (eshchory) | 555 comments I would be very happy for anything by John Scalzi but I am excited that the second books in both the Lock In and The Interdependency series are supposed to be coming out in 2018:
Head On
The Widening Gyre

message 16: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 2793 comments Oh, right, I forgot about that Lock In sequel. Now I have to put it in my list. *grumble grumble

I also forgot to add Wrath of Empire from Gods of Blood and Powder series by Brian McClellan.

message 17: by Trike (new)

Trike All the books I was waiting for came out in 2017. Naturally I didn’t get around to reading any of them.

The only new one be heard about is Record of a Spaceborn Few, but. Need to read the second one first.

Tempests and Slaughter

message 37: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 2793 comments @Hank: My pleasure.

For new non-part-of-series releases, Space Opera by Catherynne Valente looks very interesting. Any others?

RJ - Slayer of Trolls (hawk5391yahoocom) CBRetriever wrote: "it's just as likely as George R.R. Martin releasing The Winds of Winter. It's been the same length of time"

Yeah, that's the one I'd like to see this year.

I guess I'll settle for Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik.

I would also like Master Alvin and Shadows Alive from Orson Scott Card so I can wrap up those series.

Seems to be a good way to lose a lot of the joy of art by holding the artist to a higher standard. Or a really good reason to stop looking into the personal lives of the artist you admire. Everyone has feet of clay in the end.

Idk, "doesn't want to torture 10% of the population" is a pretty baseline standard I have for people. He is an advocate for conversion therapy, which has outright killed dozens of people, and been the direct cause of many more suicides.

We each get to navigate the line between personal and political as we choose. I have a hard time reconciling a lot of actors, personally. Tom Cruise is an awful person, but am I really never going to watch his movies ever again? How bad a person am I if I do?

The fact that Orson Scott Card wants to torture so many of my family for who and how they love really does put a damper on my enjoyment, personally, and I'm glad to know, because while I did love Ender's Game, pre-awareness of this, there are so many great books out there by people who AREN'T using their notoriety to begin genocide, and I'd rather my money go there!
