I read Midnight at the Bright Ideas Bookstore. It's a mystery novel, yes, but more of a tragic drama than anything. It's pretty good, but if you need an unambiguously happy ending, stay far away from this one.

Mary Arkless | 153 comments The Grilling Season by Diane Mott Davidson. The main character is a caterer who seems to regularly stumble across dead bodies and can't keep from investigating whodunit despite being married to a cop and knowing better. Pleasant enough, although not taxing.
