Thanks. I will have internet access part of the time - it's just I really hate posting from my phone! :)

Rosina (rosinarowantree) I hope you won't be sailing from Auckland to the Bluff on the Florabelle!

Have a lovely trip!

Ha, I'm not the sort of sailor for those waters. When my friends took the boat to Nelson last year, my female friend flew both ways. Craig got his son & 2 other friends to help. You need a lot of experience for those waters.

Ha! You are right. I am home now & I did have a wonderful time. The big highlight was seeing a school of dolphins. I've never seen dolphins in the wild before & they put on quite a show!

I had internet access most of the time we were away, but deliberately kept out of The Corinthian threads - I should be ready to start reading later today.

Barb in Maryland | 816 comments Welcome back! Glad you had a good time. Dolphins! Lucky you! We would sometimes see dolphins offshore while walking the beach in North Carolina, especially if the sea was very calm. Always made our day.

Susan in NC (susanncreader) | 4143 comments Yes, we were at the no coast last week and saw dolphins from our balcony. I think the fishing from the beach brings them in, such a treat to see! Glad you had a good time, Carol, and are home safe (read of some severe weather around NZ last week and was worried for you, not being sure where you were sailing).

Yes the weather made a difference. We were in 34 knot winds at one stage - not my sort of sailing at all - & my husband thought he was going to be sea sick. But the weather forecast wasn't going to improve & my friends needed to be back for a wake/funeral.

QNPoohBear | 1639 comments It sounds like you had a great vacation. My niece would be so jealous of you for seeing dolphins. She wants to be a "dolphin doctor" when she grows up. She finally saw real dolphins last year when they went to Florida for a mother-daughter-dolphin vacation. I've never seen wild dolphins, just circus dolphins, which have apparently been banned since niece has never seen the dolphin circus.

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) Welcome back, Carol! I’m waving to you in passing, as I am off for two weeks in England tomorrow. Brrr!

Kim Kaso | 511 comments We saw Fungie and his mother in the bay @ Dingle in Ireland when our kids were young, he was a young dolphin. They came tight up to the shore, it was very quiet when we were there in October. The kids also tried calling Nessie when we visited Loch Ness, but, fortunately, no monsters arose from the deep. We see dolphins and whales here, sometimes, and seals and sea otters.

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) Hah, it’s supposed to be in the 30s and 40s and rain every day I am there. Will help me describe such conditions in my next novel, since I never experience that here in the Bay Area!

My English ancestors ended up in New England some accidentally when the Mayflower went off course and others on purpose but while the continent was a new one, the weather was certainly familiar. 30s and 40s and snowy/rainy is pretty normal for March in New England- if you need more atmosphere for your novel!

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) We're most likely related, then. My grandmother was descended from about a third of the passenger list of the M. As an aside, I am currently staying in the town that the Mullan who was on the ship is from (at least, I think that's how his name was spelled, but I am bereft of my library right now and can't remember a thing without it).
