Trisha (trishabisen) | 2389 comments This thread is to discuss Children of Virtue and Vengeance, the second book in the Legacy of Orïsha Series by Tomi Adeyemi.

Pages: 404 pages

Length: 1 Month (May)

Participants: Lynn, Ruthie.

Everyone reads at their own pace during a Buddy Read. Because participants can be at different parts of the book at different times, it is extremely important to mark spoilers so that the book is not ruined for someone who is not as far along as others!!!

Mark spoilers by placing {spoiler} before the text and {/spoiler} after the text but use the < and > instead of the { and }.

Happy Buddy Reading!

Dikshita (Nightime BookNerd) | 206 comments Hi guys! I joined the group today and I am so glad that there is already a thread for discussing Children of virtue and vengeance for May.

Right now I am reading the book in the Ocean challenge for this month. Once it’s done, I am definitely going to read this. I finished the first book in January and just couldn’t get the chance to start the second one.

So so so happy to see this thread!

Happy reading all.

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 2389 comments Buzzed through this last week. I loved it. I have found both of her books to be enthralling. I probably preferred the first book overall, but I think that's because we learned so much about each character.
In the Popsugar weekly check-in for this week I stated:
I find it very interesting that this series appeals to me so much, since such fantastical action/adventure books typically leave me wanting something more... Examples: Uprooted by Naomi Novik and Trail of LightningTrail of Lightning (The Sixth World #1) by Rebecca Roanhorse, neither of which appealed to me enough to keep reading more of that author’s writing. But I feel the exact opposite about Adeyemi’s writing or V.E. Scwab’s in the Shades of Magic series of which I have read the first book A Darker Shade of Magic and plan to read the second, A Gathering of Shadows, next month. I just find that so interesting. It is neither right nor wrong, but curious, IMHO!

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 2389 comments I was very disappointed in Amari's heartless actions at Ibadan, Zelie and Tzain's home village, before going after the Queen and Inan. But I was thrilled at Zelie's realization about the combination of powers/skills and their ability to bring the dead back to life. That was amazing!

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 2389 comments Maybe one of the reasons I enjoy this series so much and feel so connected to the characters is Adeyemi's repetition throughout of the characters' memories of statements made. (view spoiler) I can't count the number of times when in certain situations others' words have come back to me in similar ways, etc.

That's interesting Lynn! We all like different things!

I also love V.E. Schwab's writing including the series you're reading and also recommend her other series' Vicious, Vengeful; This Savage Song, Our Dark Duet

BUT I did enjoy the Trail of Lightning and the second one and am looking forward to the third.

For Orisha, I liked the first but didn't enjoy the 2nd too much

So true. Each individual reacts uniquely to each book! ;) That's what makes the world so much fun, IMO! :)

Annette Pateman | 6 comments I’m interested in learning about the Orishas. Does this book help with that?
