Emerson is a pretty tough girl on the outside, but is actually pretty sweet inside. She cares a lot about her family, and was pretty protective of them, and was a bit nervous to leave them when she went to the palace. Emerson can be hard to get to as your friend, but once she is your friend, she will be very loyal and kind to you. She also is rather introverted, and would rather read a good book than socialize, but can be extroverted around close friends and other guards whom she knows quite well.

Emerson was the first born of seven children in the LeClair family. They were in the Sixth Caste too, so life wasn't exactly easy. Once she was old enough, she started working. Even her parents working hard, well paying jobs (for a Six) wasn't enough to support them. Her mother worked as a secretary for a doctor whom was a Three, and her father worked as a cook at a Four's restaurant. Emerson worked as a waitress at the restaurant that her dad worked at. Soon, her younger siblings were also working, and their family became more finically stable.

When Emerson was just sixteen, she was offered to go to the palace as a guard. They were short on guards, and short on men, so they started hiring women. She accepted, it was a good offer, she was quite strong, and her Caste would then be a Two, that's four Castes higher than she used to be. So, Emerson went to the palace, and she missed her family, but actually liked being a guard more than a waitress.

She soon learned that they were holding the Selection, and was happy, but slightly sad. Emerson had hoped to be chosen for the Selection, she had a slight crush on the prince, but her chance totally went away when she went to the palace to be a guard.

Rowan Whitely was born in a small town right in the middle of Columbia. Her parents, John and Molly, were not extremely emotional. She was their fourth daughter, after Mae, Kathryn, and Leah. With all of those kids already, each one sort of started to look the same to John and Molly.

Exhaustion and business led to Rowan being neglected as a child. Where her oldest sister, Mae, got to go play with friends or do fun things, Rowan was stuck with her cousins (thankfully, they got on well). Anyways, Rowan grew to have a sort of hatred for her older sisters. The only one of her direct family members that she actually liked was her younger sister, Avalon. She was the only one who understood Rowan.

Rowan grew up in a pretty nice house, seeing as she was a 3. She always had food and warmth. Still, her life seemed to be lacking something. When Rowan was 18, there was a draft. She secretly hoped she'd be picked so that she could move away from home. When Rowan was picked, she pretended to be sad but was overjoyed on the inside.

[Early Life]
Hero grew up with only her father. Her mother had died when she was very young, something which has always stayed with her. Her father told her from a young age that she would be the shining star of her family. She always held this close to her heart, hoping she could live up to her father's wishes.

When she was seven,she started training with knives. She grew up in a rather rough part of town and quickly showed those around her she was not to be messed with. She lived up to her name, protecting those weaker than her. She was a rather quick study when it came to the art of defense and offense. Her father was a 2 himself, also a palace guard, and he oversaw her lessons and trainings. She wanted to follow in his footsteps.

Hero has been working at the palace as a royal guard for several years now. She enjoys her job, but wishes she had more of an opportunity to help those who are truly in need. Yes, the royals do need defense, but she believes there are those who evidently need it more.

Cole has a very double sided personality. He has the calm, emotionless and blank exterior that he shows to everyone, and the bubbly frat-boy mentality that lies under neath. He is extremely calm, so much so that he rarely gets excited about anything. He usually has a stern look on his face, one that will make even the happiest of people want to cry. When he's angry, he often clenches his fists, or stops talking.
Detached is a bit of an under statement. He doesn't do emotions or relationships- that would involve getting close to others, which is something he never does. Getting close to people is hard for him, but when he does get attached, he can be the sweetest little man-angel you've ever laid eyes on.
Cocky and Confident, he's always making other people feel unimportant and not special. He acts like he's the best person on earth, and it shows just by the way he holds himself. He has a certain air of perfection to him, and he is quite the flirt.

Cole is, for the most part, heterosexual. Just because he titles himself as straight does not mean it's entirely true. There have been a few times where he has truly thought of himself as gay, but has only ever kissed a man once in 11th grade. So in all honesty, Cole is bisexual, willing to date either gender and not limiting himself to women, or men.

Cole is considered handsome by many. There is no doubt that he is in fact a very attractive young man, with jet black hair and bright grey eyes. Before becoming a guard, Cole was average in athletics but later from his training, became very fit, muscular, and lean. He does not seem to know it, or may simply refuse to acknowledge it, but a great number of girls (as well as some men) find him extremely attractive. Cole stands at around 5'8 and weighs a little bit more than 170 lbs, but most of his weight comes from body muscle. Most people when looking at him, notice his eyes. They are light grey, but have streaks of blue and green running from the pupil to the edge of his iris.


Cole was born 19 years ago, on June 4th at 12:13 AM. When he was 3, his mother gave birth to her first daughter and died during labor. After his mothers death, Cole became very closed off despite only being 3 years old. He devoted himself to spending time on his own. For the first 10 years of his life, Cole was unable to look at his little sister, believing that she was the one who killed their mother. Cole's father was sent into the military when Cole was 14, and died 4 months later during combat.

Because both Cole's parents were dead, he and his little sister were taken in by their grandmother, who worked at the palace as a maid. Cole became a palace guard at 17 years of age, and his little sister became a maid. Cole's sister died a year later during a Southern rebel attack on the palace, as did his grandmother.

Ever since then, Cole had been devoting his life to the royal family, vowing that he wouldn't let the Southern rebels harm anyone else. Cole is one of the most devoted guards, spending almost all his time trying to protect the kingdom from the rebels.
