Laura Jane (loopylulaura) | 175 comments Do you ever feel like you spend too much time reading about books and creating To Read Lists? I often waste away hours online checking out reviews, lists of 'must reads', updating my own lists etc, and then I'm left feeling guilty at how far into an actual book I could be if I hadn't.

Cassandra | 5832 comments I feel like I spend almost as much time on Goodreads as I do reading. Sometimes that bothers me, but I like talking about books just as much as reading them, so it's not too bad.

message 3: by Marina (new)

Marina (sonnenbarke) I agree with Cassandra! I do spend a lot of time on GoodReads, but I love talking about books (and making lists, and joining challenges, and...), so I guess it's all right :-)

message 4: by Angelique (new)

Angelique I spend most of my time on GoodReads while at the office, so it's not actually costing me any reading time.

My biggest problem with Goodreads is the many fun challenges I want to participate in. I've signed up for so many that my list of books to read is getting rather daunting and I don't know where to start

It's funny how I can stop by GoodReads, planning on only staying for a few minutes. The next thing I know an hour has passed. Maybe it's because I haven't been on here long and there is so much to explore here.

message 6: by Lynette (new)

Lynette Yes! I spend a lot of time on here adding books to read which causes me so much anxiety because I want to go purchase all of the books on my TBR list because I'm afraid I will not be able to find them if I wait. Crazy, right? I currently have 15 books sitting on shelf at home and my husband has told me that I can't buy anymore until I am down to like 2. I try to only come here when I have finished reading a book and I need to review it but something always distracts me and I'm here for hours!

Jodi (readinbooks) | 1971 comments Oh my goodness. I spend more time on Goodreads than I do reading. I keep checking and checking and then checking some more. I need to somehow reverse it so than I am reading more than I am on Goodreads but I always like to see what people are reading and reviews for books I am interested in. I like to see where people are in their challenges. Goodreads is a bit of a sickness for me.

Adriana | 3888 comments I'm checking Goodreads a lot lately especially after I finish reading a book and I'm writing a review. Looking at how far people have gotten in their challenges makes me want to read more books actually.

I'm in the same boat as you, Jodi! I'll be looking at someone's challenge page and think... I really should be reading my books instead of seeing what other people are reading! I've got so many books! And then I feel guilty... but where else am I going to get such great ideas for future books to read? ;) I love Goodreads and the people in this group! Everyone is so nice and encouraging!

Victoria | 28 comments Part of the fun for me is signing up for challenges and seeing what books are being read by other readers. I think a great way of expanding your reading horizons is to get recommendations and book ideas from other people. Reading is quite a solitary pastime so to connect with a whole community who love books as much as do is very important to me and adds a social side to reading that I wouldn't get if I buried myself in books 100% of the time. Don't know where I'd be without Goodreads

message 12: by Caro (new)

Caro (karopi) | 995 comments I spend way more time in Goodreads than reading or in any other social application. I start to check one thing and then I jump to 20 other different ones. Between the challenge, the groups and book recommendations I start to enlarge my TBR and sometimes by some more books... When I realize I spend two hours or more that I can be using for reading the books that are in my TBR...

Pat Bryan | 98 comments I got bogged down in writing lists until I pulled myself together and started READING the books on the lists. Also new to shopping online so quite excited to buy treasures..

Laura Jane (loopylulaura) | 175 comments Since writing that first comment I've made a point to only visit the site/app every now and again. And I really do seem to have found more time to read. I still let myself get sucked in when I come to goodreads but a lot of the time when I consider checking it I think 'If I have the spare time to do it, why don't I read a few pages of my current book instead?'
