Here comes summer reading! Welcome to the Summer 2021 Challenge!

Welcome back returning players! Thank you for making this group so much fun. If you are just joining us as a new player, we are glad you are here.

The Summer 2021 bonus theme is: Decades: The 80s
There are 60 tasks.
The Challenge point goal is 1070.

10 x 5 points = 50
10 x 10 points = 100
10 x 15 points = 150
10 x 20 points = 200
10 x 25 points = 250
9 x 30 points = 270
1 x 50 points = 50

Many of the tasks have already been posted. The remaining tasks will be posted as they are available. The aim is to have all tasks, excepting 50.1, posted by June 7. All tasks are draft until June 12 or 5 days after the last task is posted. Please carefully review the task descriptions after the task become final as task requirements may have changed during the review period. Task 50.1 will be posted after the season midpoint July 15.

We strongly recommend that you review The Rules of the Challenge, Posting Requirements and Default Rules and FAQs.

We will continue the 50 point task contest. The submission thread will open June 15.
The Summer 2021 Challenge folder holds: Challenge Tasks, Completed Tasks, the Readerboard, Questions/Problems, the current Challenge Rules, the season's Group Reads discussion threads, Task Ideas, the Calendar and submission threads for the season's contests.

The Spring 2021 Challenge will end on August 31, 2021 at midnight Eastern time.

All tasks (except the 50 point task) have now been posted and finalized. Please carefully review the task descriptions as task requirements may have changed during the review period.

The poll is open for the Summer 2021 50 Point Task. You may vote until the end of the day on July 12.

The Summer Challenge midpoint will occur at midnight Eastern time tomorrow, July 15.

Check Your Total
Please check your totals on the Readerboard now so we can investigate any discrepancies. If your points don't match what is on the Readerboard, please follow the procedure in message 1 of the questions/problems thread. If you still can't figure out the source of the discrepancy, make a post in the questions/problems thread that details which tasks you believe you should have points for and I'll investigate.

Group Reads
We will also begin the Fall 2021 Group Reads process.

The three Group Reads categories are:

Fiction:
>Bad Girls - Lady Pirates, Thieves, etc.
>Locked room mystery

Nonfiction:
>Disability

The top 30 eligible players on the Midpoint Readerboard will nominate books that fit the three categories. Players tied with the person in 30th place will be included.

A pool of 5 eligible alternate nominators will be selected from the next highest scoring players on the Readerboard. Their nominations will only be included if a top 30 player elects to pass or misses a response deadline.

To be eligible, a player must not have nominated a book in the current challenge's Group Reads process. A player may not nominate books in two successive challenges.
Book nominators must respond within 5 days. BUT, PLEASE, let us know if you plan to participate right away, even if you need time to consider your choices.

Please be sure to check for messages on Goodreads on July 15-20.

Polls with 10 nominated books for each category will determine the Group Reads task selections. A 4th book will be selected by the reviewing moderator from Gutenberg.org.

Also, to be eligible to create a task or participate in the nomination process a player’s profile must be set up to accept messages. Please check your settings or friend the moderators. All communication is done through Goodreads mail. (less)
