Katie Pham “Everless” by Sara Holland is the first book in the Everless duology. It takes place in the kingdom of Sempera where time is currency. Citizens have to extract their blood and bind the time in their blood to coins to use. Jules is a poor girl who lives in a rundown village with her father. One day, she realized that they are in a lot of debt and that her father is running out of time. To try to provide for her father, she decided to work at the place where she vowed not to return to ever again—Everless.

As Jules returns to her childhood home, she finds out that nothing is as she remembers. She does, however, rekindle some old relationships and even makes new friends that seem “out of her league.” While she works there, she discovers secrets and questions that she desperately needs to uncover. Her curiosity and determination leads to many twists, turns, and betrayals.

This book was very engaging and fast-paced, which allowed me to finish it in one day. I found that it had similar vibes as “Red Queen” by Victoria Aveyard and “A Court of Thorns and Roses” by Sarah J. Maas. This may have been a reason why I enjoyed it so much. I really enjoyed learning about the characters and did not expect all of the twists in the book. So, with that being said, I would recommend this book to anyone who liked the Red Queen Series by Victoria Aveyard because it has similar concepts of royalty, love triangles, and magic!
