For Indigo Phillips, life has always been her and her identical twin—Violet. The perfectly dressed, gentle, popular sister. But now Violet is terminally ill and, in a few hours, plans to die on her own terms via medically assisted suicide. Even though she and Violet have drifted apart lately, Indigo doesn’t know how to face life without the only person who really understands her. Until suddenly she hears a mysterious voice claiming to be God, insisting that if she takes Violet to a remote rock formation in the Arizona desert, her sister will live.

Indigo is sure she’s losing it. But Violet agrees to go—if their incredibly dysfunctional family accompanies them on their trek from Seattle to Arizona. Indigo can barely be in the same zip code as her distant mother and controlling big sister, much less keep the peace on a road trip. Speaking her mind is the only way she can deal. But between facing senseless mishaps and strange lodgings, and meeting even stranger folks along the way, Indigo will learn shocking things about those she thought she knew too well. When a sequence of wrenching secrets detonates, Indigo must figure out how to come to terms with her sister, her family…and the voice in her head.

Chapter 2
(view spoiler)[ To be fair, they’ve been through a lot. I can see why they just want her to be ok and to pretend it couldn’t have been a suicide attempt. They seem like they want what’s best for their kids overall even if they don’t always show it the right way. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 3
(view spoiler)[ I’m gonna guess this isn’t actually God in her head. I don’t think this plan will actually save her sisters life. That would be way too straightforward. Her older sister seems a bit annoying. It’s like she always has to be right. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 3: (view spoiler)[Something in me thinks this is some ploy being pulled by her brother or her parents. But I'm not 100% sure. I want to see how this turns out. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 5
(view spoiler)[ This is a heavy scenario. You’d think everyone would want to say goodbye individually rather than in a group setting with letters. This pastor dude seems more weird than comforting. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 7
(view spoiler)[ well, this is all very convenient. Who just happens to have a really uncommon wheelchair for hiking laying around with an adapted bus and a bunch of free time. I can’t believe most of the family would go along with this plan so easily. It sounds pretty ridiculous when you think about it. They must all be desperate for even the tiniest bit of hope. Chapter 9: (view spoiler)[Really Violet? Petty Vandalism? And Indigo just makes it go away? I do like the family dynamic and am really interested about who the voice is, but I'm not really loving the story as much as I expected to. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 12
(view spoiler)[ I Do like the characters and the interactions. I also like the concept and want to know where it goes. My only problem with this book is that it isn’t going anywhere fast. It doesn’t even feel like we’re building up to anything right now and there’s less than half the book left to go. I’m hoping it picks up. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 16

The whole divorce and moving home thing seems like a thing she should’ve spoken to her parents about earlier since it requires them all moving in together. It’s kinda odd to just assume everyone would be fine with that. It’s a smart way of her becoming a doctor though.

(view spoiler)[I'm getting that vibe too. Though I'm not really in love with the protagonist, Indigo, at this point. She's made more than a few questionable choices, at least to me, and so far, some actions have felt out of the blue to me. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[That was a big drama bomb! I think the problem I'm having is the pacing is off, there was a big lull in the middle and all of a sudden big meaningful speeches and all of that, it's a bit jarring. It's got good moments, but it's not what I'm expecting. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 18: (view spoiler)[Looks like Violet was going to take the pills anyway. Pretty heavy book if I say so myself. I wish I knew a bit more about how Violet made these choices, but I do like how her and Indigo contrast. (hide spoiler)]

Finished: (view spoiler)[Overall, I found this to be just okay. I like the character interactions, but some things just feel like they came from left field, and the pacing was off. Plus, the book just ends, a short chapter 19 and that's it. It felt like it needed another chapter or two to wrap things up. Doesn't explain about the voice in her head at all. I was so sad, since I loved her first book, Tiffany Sly Lives Here Now. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I had very similar thoughts. An ending that showed everyone’s reactions and feelings moving forward would’ve been nice since we’ve gotten to know all the characters quite well. It seems like we’re supposed to conclude the voice in her head was god without questioning it. I feel like it can’t have been so it would’ve been nice for the book to delve into that a bit more. (view spoiler)[A lot of the issues I had with this book were issues I saw in Tiffany Sly, but it was more obvious here, with the plot points dropping off, etc. The non-ending here really didn't do it for me. The book ending at 87% on my kindle also didn't help. (hide spoiler)]
