As may be noted I have started to post reviews from the new website (trrobinsonpublications.com). I will slowly re-publish previous reviews on this website and add links to them from here. Please bare with me as it takes a while to get everything changed and updated for use with the new site.

The author, who was born with cerebral palsy, was only twenty-four when she wrote this memoir. As she says her desire was to honour her mother for how she loved and helped her. However, this memoir encompasses far more. In many ways it is an amazing tale of how someone with such physical limitations has lived a full and active life. In fact, she, in the few years of life already experienced, has undertaken far more than many physically able people.

I found the book interesting not only for the personal tale but also from a historic point of view. It is very easy, in these so called days of equality, to forget how life was for those in previous generations who dared break the social ‘rules’ and acceptances of the times.

This book comprises the author’s personal tale detailing her life journey throughout which she had to deal with the impact a family secret had upon her and the family as a whole. It is technically well written and right from the start we have a clear understanding of the author’s thoughts, emotions and opinions. It clearly shows how a secret can affect people, whether they know of its existence or not.

I'd like to submit my romantic suspense novel, The Other Side of Him, inspired by true events, for your consideration to review.
Briefly: In the 1950's a beautiful, smart young woman, raised in a Chicago tenement, finds her ticket to escape her background by earning a scholarship to college. She is on her way to a better life when she meets a handsome and rich doctor. He is smitten with her and she is taken with him. But soon enough she learns that he is also seriously flawed. She tries to stop seeing him, but he will not be rejected. He begins to stalk her. At first he only follows her everywhere, but his behaviors become increasingly threatening, even violent on occasion. She is in great danger. At a time before any of society's institutions were in place to help such victims of domestic violence, she must find her own dramatic and life-changing way to protect herself.
If interested, please contact me by email: [email protected] or Goodreads Messages. I am interested in posting the review on Amazon and Goodreads. An I can provide any format of the book you like.
Thank you for considering,
Alice Rene

Thank you for the invitation Alice. However, as explained in the e-mail I just sent, I have to decline. Regards, T. R.

In the prologue Jill Dobbe effectively shares how, having been born and brought up in a provincial town, she has a desire to travel and see the world; the reader will find themselves empathising with her. However, before she can put any of her plans into practice she marries her soulmate and has two young children. Fortunately, her husband turns out to have similar desires and with both of them feeling restless, they ultimately venture out into overseas teaching assignments: both are qualified teachers.

Dear T.R.
At the age of seven, I have started to write... I finally decided to let one book go. I am from Croatia and kindle publishing from our country is something like SF (very complicated). The reason why I decided to publish this book : I really think it is very good (psychological, suspense mystery) thriller.
Title-Girl from a Train Station
Mystery, Thriller & Suspense, Psychological
This Central Train Station is the broken heart of a sleepy Golden Valley and more than just a destination. In the Golden Valley, kids grow up slowly while the old die fast. By the chapel, wounded souls pray for forgiveness; old wives say the rosary before morning mass for the redemption of their sins, while the joints of comfort circle around the docks of the sleepy valley. If you take a wrong turn, the Golden Valley might become your ‘Mistress of the Darkness’. Not all soul candies are made of chocolate.
As an adult, a troubled psychologist (Julia) finds herself on an emotional roller coaster after a teenage girl she helps out in life is presumed missing. Buried childhood memories from the Golden Valley come back to haunt her as she suddenly gets involved in a confusing police investigation. Meanwhile, a next-door professor (Legetin) loves to play mysterious mind games (‘good neighbor-bad neighbor’). Gradually, Julia becomes a slave to her emotions of alienation and sorrow. In a desperate search for identity, she is torn between her love for the man of her present and the woman of her past.

My book is free for download today and tomorrow.
I would appreciate honest review. It would mean world to me. I would be extremely grateful. Because, as first time publisher, without reviews you get lost in Amazon woods. Thank you in advance.

Thank you Dragica for inviting me to review your book. Before continuing I must apologise for the delay in responding. This has been due to a number of factors including a very sudden and totally unexpected death.
I regret I must decline your offer. I already have a back log that may well take up to a year to clear, perhaps more. In addition, I am currently primarily, though admittedly not exclusively, concentrating on the memoir, autobiography and biography genre. Please note: some of the reviews that will be posted here were in fact given some years ago in blogs that are no longer available. I have therefore, alongside the creation of a new website, decided to re-post amended versions here. This is why you will see some none memoir/autobiography/biography related reviews.
I am sorry. I know very well how hard it is to obtain reviews and do like to try and accommodate authors when I can. Nevertheless, at the same time I have to be realistic about my availability.
I sincerely wish you all success and hope you are able to find reviewers for your interesting sounding book.
Regards, T. R.

This first collection of short stories by Rosen Trevithick is very readable. Containing both longer and shorter stories it has something for everyone and for every time slot. Whether a reader is looking for: a quick lunchtime read; something to while away a tedious journey; a distraction while awaiting a medical or dental appointment; etc., they are likely to find something to suit within this anthology.

The story contains a vast mixture of emotions and experiences and does an excellent job of showing how bad parenting may impact upon a child. The reader is given a sense of; how a child may feel; how they will try to find ways for dealing with their situation; the sorrow they experience when little comforts are destroyed or removed by the very people they are doing their best to cope with. The reader cannot help sympathising with the protagonist; Roy Nuttersley. They will admire his character and ‘secretly’ hope and encourage him to succeed. They may well find themselves laughing, cheering, crying and jumping for joy as Roy faces the vast range of experiences and challenges which assail him.

Most readers will acknowledge Claire Tomalin to be a brave lady to have undertaken the writing of this further biography of such a well-documented and loved author and man. Certainly the book has been superbly researched and brings out much many readers would have been unaware of. Many where brought up to view Charles Dickens in a slightly romanticised way, as the great novelist and popular man of his age. This biography however, brings home the reality in a very honest and uncompromising manner. Some will no doubt feel a little disappointed by the factual uncovering but in truth the book is the richer for it.

Once read, most reader’s will undoubtedly consider the author to be a very brave woman. To put these experiences into writing, let alone publishing them for all the world to see, must have taken considerable courage. Readers should know, when initially writing and publishing this book, the author chose to conceal her own and other’s identities; ‘To protect the innocent and the guilty’. Nevertheless, she has subsequently been brave enough to reveal her identity by publishing photographs of herself. This woman’s courage has to be admired: how many others would have been prepared to take such a step?

The author’s attempt to gain employment in a specific field is hampered by not having another language at her command. She therefore decides to resolve the issue by applying to become an au pair in France. Her story commences with a deception that could have led to the whole adventure backfiring from the start. No doubt in many cases it would have but a need of the moment prevented it doing so.

Naturally by their very nature memoirs are retrospective. This one certainly is. But it goes further than simply recording the author’s past life. Or simply entertaining the reader. Nicholas Clee honestly faces up to how he has behaved. Yet he does not stop there. He seeks to understand why he behaved as he did on various occasions. Sometimes it is not so much his behaviour but his values, prejudices and compliances that are considered.

Straight off the reader is drawn into this tale that is remarkably well written considering it has been translated from Hebrew. It is described as ‘An Autobiographical Mystery’ but is in fact a combination of autobiography, biography and memoir.
It all starts when the author is informed about a possible inheritance he had no knowledge of. This sends him on a journey of discovery that would last a year and a half.

Just a quick note to thank all of you who take the time to write reviews. You are all greatly appreciated and your reviews are super important. Thank you :-)

My pleasure. As an author I appreciate the importance and relevance of reviews. However, that aside, I think it only common courtesy to publish a review of books I have read. Nevertheless, I appreciate your appreciation C.L. I it is always nice to know people are seeing the review posts. Makes the effort worth while. My turn to say thank you.

As the synopsis makes clear, Berenice Walters, now deceased, and her dingoes are the primary topic of this account. In truth that should be the other way round; Berenice’s dingoes are really the primary protagonists.

This is an honest and hard hitting autobiography that should help readers understand what motivates some of the ‘difficult’ characters they may come across in life. The author himself has been one such.

The tale is primarily based in the period of King Alfred of Wessex’s reign (871 - 899 AD) during which the Danes sought to occupy the whole of the land. However, the king was determined to preserve Saxon England and to expand his rule over all English speaking areas of the country.

This is a book the majority, if not all, parents would do well to read. It clearly, and uncompromisingly, depicts how a parent’s behaviour may impact on their off-spring for life.
Lucinda Clarke is an excellent author whose writing carries the reader along with ease. She incorporates: humour along with distress; emotions with thoughts; clear headedness with uncertainty and so on. Her writing is so smooth there are occasions when the reader may be surprised by how many years have passed in the tale though there are occasional references to age which help establish chronology.

As stated in the synopsis this is the true story of some young men and their leader who venture out on an outward bound experience for a few days. It does have the feel of an accurate and detailed account.

This is a very personal, honest, no holds barred, memoir depicting the author’s journey with gambling addiction. Catherine Townsend-Lyon is very honest about all her failings. Though she admits writing the book had a cathartic effect it must have been very hard to recall and put into public view all that occurred on her journey. She has to be admired and respected for having taken this step.

Once bubbly twenty-one-year-old photographer Natalie Sullivan has just lost her boyfriend, Luke, in a tragic car accident. To honor his memory, she plans to embark on an epic road trip with her friends to the places he talked about, including Zion National Park, Valley of Fire, and more. But during the funeral, a girl bursts in claiming to be his real girlfriend, and on top of that- she is pregnant with his child. Natalie doesn’t know what else to do except hightail it out of town, but her car breaks down and her only ticket to escape is with Rhys, Luke's abrasive little brother who drinks whiskey out of a coffee mug.
Rhys, a seasoned outdoorsman, has issues of his own — his father blames him for the death of his favored son and admits he’s not even sure if he’s Rhys’s real dad. Through their devastation, an undeniable chemistry grows as they find solace in one another, and even though Natalie knows she must confront the other woman, now she must also decide if Rhys is just a temporary fix, or if they have something real together.

Sorry Greta but I mostly read memoir (includes autobiography and biography), with the occasional fiction thrown in. Romance is not a genre I read besides which I already have a backlog of books to catch up with. This not helped by the fact I have little spare time for reading or otherwise (wish I had more).

The Principle of Oneness synopsis:
The Principle of Oneness expounds on the first principle from the award winning and bestselling book, The Six Principles of Enlightenment and Meaning of Life and is the second in this series of eight books on enlightenment.
Many have said "We are all one" but what does that really mean? This practical guide helps you understand and experience the profound unity of everyone and everything. Author Russell Anthony Gibbs explains the science behind the connections of everything both physical matter and nonphysical energy. Gibbs supports his points with quotes from scientists, enlightened beings, spiritual leaders, philosophers and others. Great minds like Albert Einstein, Buddha, Aristotle, Rumi and Jesus all understood the profound Oneness of the Universe. Gibbs further clarifies some of the misconception about the Universe/God as well as explains how to live and experience the Principle of Oneness.
Award winning and bestselling author Russell Anthony Gibbs is a philosopher and spiritual seeker on a quest for enlightenment. His research into Baha'ism, Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Islam, Sufism and Taoism greatly influences his spiritual and philosophical perspective. He is also profoundly influenced by the information from two channeled entities, Seth and Abraham. He further incorporates quantum mechanics, physics and psychology as well as concepts from the works of Albert Einstein, Carl Jung, Sigmund Freud and Stephen Hawking. Gibbs's communication style is concise, intense and deep. He would rather express wisdom in brief, powerful quotes and concise paragraphs than in complicated, long-winded explanations. Enlightenment is an awakening, and Espresso Wisdom is meant to help jumpstart you on your journey. Espresso Wisdom Short, Strong, Rich Insight! ™

Added to this is the limited time I am able to dedicate to reading - demands upon me limits it very much. In addition I already have a backlog of books waiting to be read. Regards, T. R.

Claire Tomalin has done an excellent job with this biography. She must be commended for the depth and breadth of her research. It must have taken considerable time to gather so much information and to ‘interpret’ it to the extent it relates to Jane Austen herself.

How many would have dared to purchase a property, in need of extensive renovation, in a foreign land knowing it would initially be just for five years? Most would probably have opted for rented accommodation to see how they found the local environment. But these brave souls went much further.

At first this book may have the appearance of being a memoir but is in fact a work of fiction. ........
The tale is based round a Polish Jewish family who, along with thousands of others, have been forced by German occupiers to live in a rundown, disintegrating, ghetto in Warsaw. ........
The author has done a good job of bringing to life the various characters with all their differences and quirks.

........... It is primarily the tale of a young girl’s thoughts upon being taken upon a lengthy journey to a foreign land and away from her father. The observations are realistic and appear to be based upon valid research if not actual experience. Whether this is entirely fictional or drawn from other people’s experiences is debatable: as said there is some confusion. Nevertheless, should it indeed be the circumstance, due credit must be given to the author’s affirmation that this is a fictional work even though it reads so realistically.

From the start the reader will appreciate the honest self-criticism of this memoir. Whatever they may think of the author’s behaviour they will, surprisingly perhaps, find themselves drawn in. The author does come across as having been a bit of a ‘Jack-the-Lad’ character.
The writing is light, easy and descriptive, providing the reader with a book they may enjoy at any time. This is not to say there is no depth or relevance, there is. The pace is also steady carrying the reader along without any sense of effort. ..............

As with any short story (4,190 words - 13 pages) it is difficult to go into too much detail without spoiling it for potential readers. The protagonist, Ann Saunders, experiences sadness and undergoes, along with others, difficult circumstances. Though, naturally, the tale focuses on Ann Saunders, it remains an account, even if partly fictitious, of the participants combined experiences.

Thank you P.I.
Besides the fact that my 'To Read' list is massive, I do not seek requests for reviews. Due to demands upon me I have little time to devote to reading and therefore limit what I choose. Sorry but that is how my life is, at least for now.

Dear Raleigh,
First I must apologise for the delay in responding. One of my eyes had a strong reaction to some treatment. This has meant I could not work online. Though it is still in recovery I have been able to do a little today.
Thank you for you kind comments about my reviews and for requesting a review. However, I regret I must decline. I already have a backlog that is going to take a very long time to get through. And, of course, I am not sure how my eye recovery will progress. Apparently I may, in time, also encounter similar problems with my other eye
I am sorry to disappoint you but I do have to be realistic.
Regards,
T. R.

A US Marshal is called in when a body is discovered in Rozar Park; hence the title. Accompanying him is his friend Chris who, the reader will discover later, is in the witness protection program. Very little is known about him but he quickly notices anomalies regarding the body’s position. There are other unusual elements among which are some odd newspaper adverts. These eventually lead to the truth. The story certainly does not end up where the reader may expect.
