J. (josette31) | 1 comments I have Nook also and I have at least 200 books. The only problem is, I don't buy them through Barnes and Noble so I don't think I can share. :o(

Lisa | 5 comments I also have a Nook and i have 400 books. I haven't even start reading the ebooks yet.

Adriana (adrinori) I have a kobo and i have about 100 books...

message 5: by Lisa M (new)

Lisa M (lamessegee) | 462 comments I have a Kindle and I LOVE it. I now prefer reading on it to reading paper books. I have about 100 books on it, and I've read them all. I only buy e-books when I'm ready to read them--that's the beauty of an e-reader. I can buy a new book at 2 a.m., if I want to!

Mazzy (booknerdmissmeli) I don't think we have Kindles here in Australia. Does anyone know what the Australian version of the Kindle is? And is it any good?

message 10: by AH (new)

That's what I love about my Kindle too. It's great being able to finish a book and immediately download the next one no matter where you are. I've had a break from it recently, as I was spending too much, so have gone back to borrowing from the library, but I do miss it, especially as turning pages is so noisy and keeps my husband awake when I'm reading in bed!

You do have kindles there--I follow a review site in Paradise Aus and the blog owner reads on a Kindle. Not sure where she ordered it, but I can link to the site and you can ask her!

She loves her kindle and the fact that apparently books cost a lot less on Kindle!

message 16: by Kasi (new)

Kasi Blake (kcblake) | 18 comments I got a Kindle after publishing my book Vampires Rule with Amazon and Smashwords. For those of you who don't know about Smashwords it is pretty cool because readers can get books in any format you want. You can get a book for Nook there or Sony Reader or any of the other e-readers. I like it.

message 17: by Vi (new)

Vi I have a Sony Reader.. Best decision to buy it. 'Cos I'm outside US and I had to use a freight forwarder to ship it to my country. But it was well worth it. Now I'm not without my reader.

I have only used the kindle and I love it. I would recommend checking the different options out in person to see what you like the best. They sell the kindle at target and walmart stores. I believe target also carries the sony ereader. The color nook looks neat from the commercials but I have not seen one in person and it was much more expensive. I like the kindle because it is easy to read, the battery lasts a long time and amazon has an amazing selection of books. I also read an article that most public libraries will be lending ebooks soon and it will be compatible with the kindle.

message 22: by Tammy (new)

Tammy (martam6) | 16 comments Hi,
I have a nook color and I love it. Some important facts that I found were: 1. The nook can hold a SD card up to 32GB thats alot of books, that not counting the internal menory.
2. When nook develops a new version you can keep your same hareware but nook sends you the new softwware. Your nook never becomes out dated.

message 23: by Tammy (new)

Tammy (martam6) | 16 comments Sorry i hit the post button,
3. Nook is compatible with the libraries I've used it.

Hey There Delilah!! (lilone322) | 180 comments I also have a Nook Color and I love it. I just wish the battery life was better. I have about 200 books but since I haven't brought them all from BN, I'm not sure I can share which sucks I guess since I wouldnt have a problem with sharing.

message 25: by Tammy (new)

Tammy (martam6) | 16 comments If its a lend me you could share once with other nooks. If you want to share with a different ereader they would have to add a nook apps to there system.

message 26: by Ladymcbeth (new)

Ladymcbeth | 16 comments Thanks a lot
As I live in France, I have no access too nook or kindle except by the web.
How do you take book in your ereader ? when you pay a book, it come in your ereader by wifi ?? or is there something like usb ??

message 27: by Tammy (new)

Tammy (martam6) | 16 comments By wifi, very easy.

message 28: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (s4r4h) Tammy wrote: "I have a nook color, best money i ever spent."

I agree. I love mine; and my Mom, who has an iPad, wishes she had gotten a NOOKcolor instead.

message 29: by Jackie (new)

Jackie I wish I had an e-reader. :-( I read mostly on my netbook.

It can get pretty annoying setting up the thing. Any suggestions on the best e-readers? I need to get one.

My sister has a Kindle, and she swears by it.

message 30: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (s4r4h) I am not a Kindle fan; but that's just me. I like the NOOKcolor because of the color, touch screen, apps and internet. And if you like reading magazines, it's the only way to go.

message 31: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Sarah wrote: "I am not a Kindle fan; but that's just me. I like the NOOKcolor because of the color, touch screen, apps and internet. And if you like reading magazines, it's the only way to go."

This might seem like a dumb question, But can you transfer e-books that you already have from your pc to the Nookcolor?

message 32: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (s4r4h) In most cases you can; sometimes you have to download additional software, like Calibre or Adobe Digital Editions and sideload (transfer the files). If you have a Barnes and Noble nearby, you should definitely go check it out. It's more expensive, but you can do so much more with a NOOKcolor than a Kindle or a regular Nook. Also, you can check out the forums on BN.com and clubnook.com for detailed information on sideloading and rooting your nook.

message 33: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Thanks, We don't have Barnes & Noble here at all. Which might be a problem. I'm going to investigate a little further.

Thanks for the help.

message 34: by AH (new)

AH You can also use Calibre to convert your nonDRM'd files to files that your e-reader reads. For example, I convert pdf's to epubs for my reader because navigation is just easier in epub.

message 35: by AH (new)

AH Jackie, if you don't have a B&N nearby, they DO NOT ship the Nook outside the US. We tried.

message 36: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (s4r4h) There is a video and lots of product info on the bn website at this link: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/nookcol...
I think they are selling them at Best Buy and Walmart now too. I'm happy to answer any questions, but I'm no expert. If you decide to join clubnook.com, let me know. My user name there is Scarlet_Sunshine.

Jackie AH wrote: "Jackie, if you don't have a B&N nearby, they DO NOT ship the Nook outside the US. We tried."

Thanks AH, My sister is an air hostess and frequently flies to NY & Washington, so she can always get one for me.

I was just worried that I'd get it and won't be able to use it...

Thanks

message 38: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (s4r4h) Jackie, I just saw that you are in South Africa. I don't think you can access the BN store online directly from a Nook outside of the US. However, I think you can add content via USB from your netbook or any other computer. Definitely ask that question prior to purchasing.

Sorry, I should have looked at your contact info first.

Jackie Sarah wrote: "Jackie, I just saw that you are in South Africa. I don't think you can access the BN store online directly from a Nook outside of the US. However, I think you can add content via USB from your ne..."

That was my main worry. If I can transfer content from a usb that shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I'm going to see what I can find out about this.

Thanks

message 40: by Ladymcbeth (new)

Ladymcbeth | 16 comments I'm quite interesting too because in France also, we don't have BN or amazon sell kindle only from US.
It's a brain teaser !!!

message 41: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Hi All, I just had a very interesting online chat with someone from Barnes & Noble. In case anyone is interested this is what he said.

Due to international copyright laws, tarrifs, vat taxes ... only US & Canadian residents are able to purchase the NOOK books on the website.

However if I do get my sister to buy one for me while she's in NY I will be able to load books that I already have that are in Epub or Pdf onto the nook.
So I'd still have to download it onto my PC first.

I just won't be able to purchase from the online store as the system will recognise that my IP address is not from the US...

Hope this is some help.

message 42: by AH (new)

AH Funny, we're in Canada and my husband was not able to purchase the Nook online.

message 43: by Ricotn (new)

Ricotn | 6 comments I have a color Nook and the decision to purchase was partly based on the children's book selections available since I have a 6 year old. IF I made the purchase just for myself, I'd probably have gone with a Kindle. I like that Nook is sold from a brick and mortar store rather than an online retailer, but the Kindle is easier on the eyes and you can read it outside without glare. I've had my Nook since Xmas and already have over 100 books purchased and read. I love the e-readers and think anyone that reads a lot should have one.

I don't like that you can't share easily. It is fun sharing books...even when you don't get them back...ugh!

Lisa M (lamessegee) | 462 comments I have a Kindle, which I LOVE, but I'm thinking of also getting a Nook Color because of the e-mail capabilities, etc. Does anyone have both? Do you find yourself using one over the other?

message 45: by April (last edited May 16, 2011 12:33PM) (new)

April I picked the nook because it looks and operates more like the iPhone. Touch screen, color blocks even on the non-nookColor. The Kindle looks more like a Blackberry. I didn't want to learn a new navigation system. Haven't played with it too much yet as I got it last night. My husband is already eyeing it and my oldest daughter (8 years old) already wants to borrow it.

message 46: by Tammy (new)

Tammy (martam6) | 16 comments Can anyone explain to me how to use the widgets.?

message 47: by Joyce (last edited May 16, 2011 07:58PM) (new)

Joyce (eternity21) I have had a Nook for a year and half and still love it. I also read on my iPad with the Nook app because I can read in the dark. I get a lot of my books as epubs from the library and ereader.com and sideload them on my Nook. I was thinking of purchasing the Nook color for my autistic son though because of the kids books on it. And it seems to be able to be handled better than an ipad. Does anyone have kids using it?

message 48: by Jackie (new)

Jackie AH wrote: "Funny, we're in Canada and my husband was not able to purchase the Nook online."

Hi AH, I'm not sure, I've seen them advertised on Amazon. And they deliver here in SA. So I'm sure they deliver there.

message 49: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlyd80) | 2 comments I technically don't have an e-reader. I have the Kindle App on my iPod touch and my phone. I love the app because that is one less device that I have to carry and I'm not ready to commit to buying an e-reader. I'm also still holding on to my paper books. I like to tell people that I use my kindle app for those guilty pleasure books I don't necessarily want people to know I'm reading :-) Also, I love the deals that Amazon frequently has on ebooks.

message 50: by Andi (new)

Andi | 74 comments Haven't used my kindle for a while as I got carried away downloading books to it and ti started to cost me a fortune. But, I just had some amazon vouchers for my birthday, so I've got the tough job of choosing which books to download of the hundreds of books I want to read. If only money were no object...
