Discussion
1. The Body Finder - It was quite different from what I expected when I read the blurb. The friends-to-lovers portion of the H/h was quite well done. The author managed to avoid (for the most part) the big misunderstanding. But the heroine did tend to have some almost-TSTL moments. The story line and way the parents and the family seem acceptive of the heroine's gift was a nice touch. All in a all, a nice absorbing and a pleasant read.
2. Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah - I've only read one women's fiction - Good in Bed which I didn't like. So I was a bit apprehensive when I started this book. I am happy to say that I loved this book. I loved the character and friendship theme that was prevalent in the book. I cried at the end too. I'll most likely check out the author's other books as well.
3. Silk Is for Seduction by Loretta Chase - I used to read historic and regency romance almost exclusively last year and burnt myself out. BUT Loretta Chase still remains one of the few authors who can make me read the genre again. I loved the main characters, I loved the way they fell in love. And I could suspend disbelief enough to accept the ending. And this book entertained me well enough during the 4 hours flight trip. Needless to say, I will definitely be picking up the next book by this author.
4. Grave Witch by Kalayna Price - A bit of cheating since I read this book last year when it came out due to the unique premise. I wanted to read it again before reading its sequel ( I hate this 1 year waits between books in a series). My impressions remains the same from the first time I read it. Death personnified makes me scoff a bit but Alex is a compelling character and thus, makes the read very enjoyable. The world building is good and at the end you are left wanting more. Also, there seems to be a love triangle but that is secondary to Alex.
5. The Bay At Midnight by Diane Chamberlain - This is the first time I'm trying out this author. I was intrigued by the story line. The book has alternating POV from 3 different characters as they narrate a childhood horror. My heart broke for Maria and Julie as they each talk about their childhood and how they tried to survive the tragedy. But it is also about love and forgiveness. It has a 50+ lead characters finding love again. I felt the mystery was a bit lacking as I could guess the whodunnit at nearly the three-quarters point. But I would recommend this book for anyone willling to try out a neat mystery.
6. An Unforgettable Lady by Jessica Bird - Jessica Bird is alternate name of J.R. Ward. I don't seem to love BDB series as much as the others since I can't go past book #4 (I think). But this book is labelled as a romantic-suspense which I will read any time. The chemistry between the lead characters was burning off the pages. The heroine is strong, rich and sexy and her character growth was what made this book awesome for me. Though, at one point, I just wanted to shout at the male lead - enough already! Just go and do it. The male lead also tended to alpha-hole territory but he groveled just enough to make me forgive me. Hmm, maybe Grace should have let him grovel a bit more at the end...?
7. A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness - OMG, this was an amazing amazing book. This book deals with Conor, 13 year old, whose life is messed up. His mother is losing the battle against cancer; he's getting bullied at school. And he's slowly becoming invisible at school. Added to that fact is that he's getting visited by a monster who will tell 3 true stories but the fourth must the true tale of Conor's life. I am so so glad I read this book. The stories told by the monster speak of humanity and applies to all people - not just the intended audience. It deals with self-esteem and forgiving oneself and others. I bawled myself out while reading (TG I was home) so keep some tissues handy! Highly recommended.
8. Black Ice by Anne Stuart - This is my first book from this author after hearing about her regencies and her non-traditional heroes. Bastien is supposed to be working undercover for a top-secret organization for maintaining world-peace at any cost. Chloe works as a translator for children's books in Paris. She takes a weekend job as a translator for a discussion. She stumbles into a discussion way over her head and the rest of the book is on her survival from the rest of the gang with the help of Bastien. Stuart wries excellent anti-heroes. For most of the book, I couldn't like Bastien. His only reedeming quality is his willing to do anything to make Chloe survive. Chloe, on the other hand, was nothing more than a damsel in distress. She relied on Bastien for everything. So clueless. I wish she'd been more aggressive. I could buy into their pairing but I ended up liking Bastien more than Chloe. I'll be picking up more book from this author but I'll probably try her regencies first.
9. Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel - My first book from this author and the genre - magic realism. I liked the food aspects of it which is really the only thing that was good about this book. I didn't get the love between the main two leads. There seemed to be only attraction. And the end just whacked me over the head. I don't think I'll pick another book from this author. But, I'll give the genre another try with Sarah Addision Allen who I've heard is far better
10. The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper - I read and liked the first book in the series. So I was very excited to try the second. Unfortunately, it was not that good. The romance storyline takes a backseat to the alpha-stories which is good but the female lead, Maggie, just comes across as dumb in them. I don't get why she's alpha - is it because she's more aggressive? The two leads have insta-love in this which is really not convincing as most of the bondings take place out of the book. All in all, an ok read. I might pick up another book from this author.
11. Sh*t My Dad Says by Justin Halpern - I think this is the first non-fiction I've read (apart from those for school works). I listened to the audio book and I really liked the narration. The book was so laugh-aloud funny that I started getting weird looks whenever I was listening to them. And this book is not meant to be listened in the gym. I learned that the hard way. I'll be definitely exploring more the non-fiction.
12. Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan - This is my first GLBT YA book. It was a short, sweet YA book that showcased romance, friendship of the main characters. Not all of the character's experiences was positive and one character's was downright sad. I really enjoyed this book and I'll definitely be picking up more GLBT (YA or Adult).
13. Doomsday Book by Connie Willis - I really don't know why I kept procrastinating this book. I loved this author's prose. I fell in love with her style effortlessly. The book is set in the future with time-travel. Kivrin is a research assistant who wants to travel back to the medievals and experience their life. This period is rated a 10 on the TT scale because of the plague and other diseases rampant during this time. Amidst difficulties, Kivrin is sent back but something went wrong. She is caught in the midst of the plague while the people back in the future are caught in a influenza pandemic. Watching Kivrin when the plague takes over the village she's in was so heartbreaking. I'll definitely be reading more of this genre and the author.
14Sweet Surrender by Maya Banks - I've read one of the KGI series before and I decided to try her Erotica series. Gray just recovered from an operation where his partner was killed. He finds the department's way of finding the killer not satisfactory and decides to go rogue. He then is informed of the link between the killer and a woman, Faith. He decides to befriend Faith and find the killer. Faith seemed like a Mary Sue. Everyone loves her in all the different ways. It got a little irritating. Gray's motive was not really strong. It seemed like a plot device. Faith's exploration of BDSM was interesting but the sex scenes didn't really hold my interest. I found myself skimming some of them. I guess Erotica is not really my thing but I'd definitely pick other books from this author.

Early Stages:
Puppy Love - Read a book where the h/H knew each other as kids and one of them had a crush on the other.
Young Love - Read a YA book with a significant romance theme.
Love at First Sight - Read a book where the h/H have an instant attraction or read a book that you bought because of the cover without knowing the author or reading any reviews (that's right. Just walk into a book store and buy a book with a cover you like. Don't even bother to read the blurb or the back. Come on, try it.)
Love's First Kiss - Read a book by an author you've never read before.
Blind Date - Read a book that a friend recommends. Unlike the PIFM challenge, you only get one pick.
Friends First (More Later) - Read a book where the h/H are friends for a long time before they become romantically involved.
Summer Lovin' - Read a book where the h/H meet on vacation.
Middle Stages:
Love and Marriage - Read a book where the h/H begin the book married.
A Serious Commitment - Read a book with at least 750 pages.
We're Comfortable - Read a book where the h/H have dated for more than three years but have never gotten married.
Keeping Things Interesting - You knew if I was putting a challenge together there had to be an erotica book in there somewhere. Well, you've found it.
Finding a New Home (Buy + Refurb) - All They Need by Sarah Mayberry - 16/11/11
First comes love, second comes marriage, then comes Joey in a baby carriage! - Read a book that has a child between the h/H as a major plot element.
I love my job! - Read a book where something about either the h/H job is a significant issue.
The End and Beyond:
Sometimes we have to say goodbye to the ones we love - Read a book where either h/H is a widow/widower.
Death isn't always the end - With the wonderful world of PNR, the h/H don't even have to be alive! Ghosts, vampires, and zombies all qualify here.
My ex isn't dead. I just wish they were - Read a book where the h/H are divorced. Either one is fine.
I didn't know what I had until you were gone - Read a book where h/H had a relationship, were separated for a significant length of time, and re-connected later in life. They don't have to have been married the first time.
We've been together forever - Read a book from an author that you have read (and rated) at least 10 of their books.
The Golden Years - Read a book where the h/H are retired, a grandparent is a significant character, or one of the characters is over 100 years old (yeah, another nod to those PNR folks).
This can't be all there is! - Read the most recently released book in a series that you love.
Other Loves
Love thy God - Read a book where the h/H is an officer of a religion (priest, pastor, rabbi, high priestess of the goddess Boo - whatever).
Filial Love - Read a book where a parent of the h/H plays a significant role in the story.
Love thy neighbor - There is always the girl next door or boy next door stories. Maybe they grew up next door to each other. Maybe they just moved in next door. Either way, they end up doing more than just borrowing a cup of flour.
Love your pets - There is a pet in this story that is a major player in the story. Maybe the h/H is a vet. In any event, pets and animals are a major focus of this one
