If you love Inception, The Matrix, or just want to see how Germans in 1973 thought "the future" would look (imagine if all the set dressing in 2001 had been supplied by IKEA), you must watch this. It's fantastic and bizarre - if I were doing the elevator pitch I'd call it The Prisoner meets The Matrix.
I'm going to try to get ahold of the book it was based on (warning, spoilers in the Goodreads blurb), Simulacron 3 too, thought the book looks much pulpier than the miniseries was. Unfortunately it went out of print several years ago and used copies on Alibris are going for $150+...hopefully my library has a copy!
It was just released by Criterion (sorry, I don't know if you're in the US or not), and there appears to be a German DVD version too because that's what's on YouTube. Netflix doesn't have it, sadly, but maybe they'll get it later.
