William Mego (willmego) For Discussion of Book two.

Adam Ayumi's dead and so ends my complaints about the narration on the audiobook. In fact, the three different narrators are all quite good. The repetition is still a bit tedious. However, it makes it easy when listening to multi-task with other things. If you miss something the first time around, you are bound to pick it up as it's repeated ten or times. Overall, I liked this section a lot. The finish of Book 2 was strong with the Air Chrysalis making the much anticipated connection between Tengo and Aoname.

Adam For some reason, I could not stop picturing Leader as a Jeff Bridges-like character. It makes no sense with the story set in Japan with Japanese characters. Murakami's depiction of Leader quickly faded from my mind and I just kept picturing The Dude or Bad Blake (Crazy Heart) laid out in the darkened hotel room.

Oh man, I'm never not going to be able to picture him this way now!

William Mego (willmego) For me, the passages with the Leader, and the passages at the nursing home were some of the best in the book so far. I absolutely adored and was electrified at much of it. It's odd, how different the prose style is here compared to much denser writers (in their native English, which cannot be forgotten) with works such as Ulysses or The Recognitions which this book seems sparse in comparison to. Yet I'm thrilled to read this book just the same.

Shooperdidooper I'm almost done with the second book but I'm kind of confused.
I want to know what happened to aomame's parents. She could've asked the leader what has become of them. Hopefully she will explain more of what happened to her before the third book. If not, whenever they find tsuda would be appropriate.
Also, is it just me or does iq84 totally sound like a parallel universe??!!
Uhgg I'm so confused. the leader said it isn't yet the thunder occurring at the time of the leader's assassination coincides with the thunderstorm of Aomame and tengo uniting.

Shooperdidooper Wow I feel so silly.

It does sound like a parallel universe! No need to feel silly, BTW

Glynis (missgmad) I absolutely love 1Q84 and hope you don't mind me suddenly jumping in! It is a parallel existence and no, you are not silly!

Shooperdidooper Well I was just thinking there's no way it could be parallel bc their lives intersect. It must be bc fuka eri saw herself come out of the chrysalis, which makes the world's 1984 and iq84 become perpendicular at some point.
