I love a big sprawling summer reading list that stretches over many genres. This year I've got My Sister's Bones by Nuala Ellwood. Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman. Smoke by Dan Vyleta. The Lauras by Sara Taylor and Miss You by Kate Eberlen. I'm also planning on rereading Mansfield Park.

I'm currently working on my fifth romance for Mills & Boon Modern. I'm actually in the middle of a rewrite, and I'm over my deadline so I'm feeling very tense.
Sometimes characters start strong and you forget to keep building them. Then when you look at them again they seem wooden and one dimensional. It's so gutting. Anyway, that's me- hits head against keyboard...

A good way to deal with writer's block is not to fight it. It's a bit like doing a crossword puzzle. The first time you look at the grid, you can only see a couple of answers. Put it down, leave it a couple of hours, and when you come back, suddenly, startlingly it's like you've woken up.
So don't panic. And don't try and write. If you do, you'll probably end up deleting all the next day anyway. Go for a walk. Watch some tv. And then take another look.

Write something, anything. I came across this article in the Guardian https://goo.gl/4GFzxi and I think it's really helpful at describing the process of getting starting which is all about confidence and practice. Key quote, 'It's less about hours than attention.' Very true. Concentrating is hard, just watch children colouring or trying to do their homework. So practice, a little every day- maybe a blog, a diary, a poem, and don't be afraid to delete it all and start again.

My head is a very noisy place! I was never one of those children who wrote endless stories in little notebooks but I was always talking to made up people inside my head (!) In fact, I still do that when I'm on my own, walking the dogs or driving somewhere. I know that sounds crazy but I find it really relaxing and exciting.

It came from watching the Netflix show, the Crown. I was really interested in the character of Prince Philip, and how it felt to be always an outsider even when to the world it appeared that you were on the innermost circle eg: being married to the Queen. Philip has status and wealth but he has no identity, he even has to give up his name, and that started me thinking about my latest character, Ramsay Walker.
