You're right. I'll look into it. Thanks much for the heads-up.

Lymond and Phillipa from Dorothy Dunnett's grand Master of Culter series. They have such a long, convoluted history, go through so much that's painful and horrific before they can be together. Phillipa steadily gains in character, intelligence and honor though the books, until she's the perfect match for the slicingly clever yet tortured Lymond -- who honors, protects and appreciates her all along.

The virgin heroine is the standard in my Victorian era historical novels because strict chaperonage of young women (not to mention serious consequences), made sexual experience unlikely. Today's books written in that era which show previous sexual activity or even aggressive solicitation for it by the heroine strike me as being PC at the expense of history. That said, you might enjoy FIERCE EDEN, about a young widow (circa 1730s colonial Louisiana) who has escaped an abusive marriage and wants no part of sex, but must exchange her favors for the lives of her friends. Or maybe LOUISIANA DAWN with a heroine who propositions a rake in order to lose her virginity that she thinks is making her a prisoner. My contemporary books are a mixed bag, actually, some heroines with a relationship history and some not, depending on the needs of the story. In LOVE AND SMOKE, for instance, the heroine is 15-year-old virgin when basically date-raped by the scum bag villain, then marries an older man for security, making her far from virginal by the time she falls for the hero. So it goes. With many thanks for the kind words about the male-female relationships in the books, Jennifer

Working title(s) only! The first book in this new series is tentatively titled: "Beau: Galahad in Jeans". It's been written in rough draft and awaits editing. The one I'm plotting at present is "Jake: Louisiana Lancelot." As always, these are subject to change.

Book 2 of the new Louisiana Gentlemen series, with Jake, the son of Roan from the original group of 5 books plus a novella, as the hero.

I work through it with pen and paper in hand, brainstorming ideas for what can happen next in the book, culling nothing regardless of how overdone, trite or ridiculous. Eventually good ideas will come. If this fails, I get up from my desk and go clean something. Since my brain would rather be writing, it does its best to provide an idea that will get me out of housework!

Seeing shelves filled with books I've written and knowing each one was once a figment of my imagination. And knowing, also, that the stories have also filled the minds of readers.

Just do it. Don't worry about what people will think, certainly don't worry about being published or the fame and fortune that may or may not follow. Write for the joy of seeing your story come to life. Write every day, until it becomes a habit you can't live without. Think of it as telling yourself the story you want to hear, only doing it in bits and bytes.

It's the story that drives me, the need to spill it out of my brain and onto the computer screen. I have to show readers my story world and the people who live and love in it.

My book in progress is a contemporary romance set in Louisiana, a return to my roots as a Louisiana author with a continuation of my Louisiana Gentleman series. In it, I wanted to explore the idea of what makes a man a gentleman, while also showcasing the traditions of the South.
