Music. When I'm having trouble "getting in the mood", I like to tell my husband to take care of the kids and go for a drive. Once I hit the road, I crank up the stereo and usually I'm racing back home to let the words start flowing out of me.

At the moment, I'm trying to wrap up "Status: It's Complicated". I think this novel has taken me the longest to write, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but just as I think I'm closing in on it, the story continues. I'm also plotting several serial novels for the upcoming future. Who am I kidding? I have a wealth of story ideas, and this is just the tip of the iceberg!

Sometimes I'll talk to other authors, friends or family and ask them, "What would you do if..." or I'll sit down with one of my thousands of notebooks and write out some options and choices that my characters will face, and decide which route to take from there.

As an Indie author, I get to write about what I want when I want. The second best thing about being a writer is that I can flesh out the characters that I've developed and watch them come to life right before my eyes. I can also kill off my enemies--legally (on paper). :)

Write, write, write, and write some more. Seriously. When you're finished doing that, edit your work and ask a trusted beta reader to take a look at it. In your spare time, read as much as possible. Reading will help you study different POVs, plots, characters and ways that other authors communicate with their readers.

A lot of my stories are inspired by talking to people, learning about their past and sometimes from reading books. Less often, ideas will come to me in dreams, which is why I keep my phone right next to me and email myself the dream as soon as I wake up.
