While I was writing Greek Lessons, I got stuck with the chronology of telling two stories. I could not figure out how to tacke this, so I stopped writing - which is NOT a way to get unstuck. A clever mentor gave me a few prompts to respond to. As I did, I realized how I might tackle the chronology problem that was facing me with the book. If you get writer's block, write something else, but don't stop writing!

Well, perhaps the best and worst thing about it - I can lose an entire day without even knowing it. But, I get to work with words - I get to bring scenes to life on paper!

Just write. Find a book of prompts. Keep a journal. Join a writing group. And if you're still stuck for something to write, READ. Read as a writer - what do you like about what you're reading? What do you like/dislike about the author's style. Emulate a paragraph. Experiment with technique.

I'm actually working on a short story that has to do with the culling of the wolf herds in the Dakotas. I heard about this on NPR and was disturbed by it.

I am always inspired to write! Any prompt can get me started. Unfortunately, with a full-time job (and sometimes a part-time job as well), it is difficult to find the time.

The idea came when I was talking with my mother in her kitchen. She mentioned that she wished that she had had a closer relationship with her mother - she envied the one I had with my daughter, and with her. She claimed to know very little about her mother, who spoke only Greek, although she lived in the US. I told her that I bet she knew more that she thought she did, and started to ask her questions. The questions led to more questions, and to a book!
