You write such strong, empowered, independent female characters. Who do you draw inspiration from? I just want to thank you for such amazing books. I read three of your books in a matter of 6 days. I also love that your female characters aren’t necessarily seeking or dependent on a man, rather they are complimented by the introduction of an equal partner. Thank you for such amazing books! What can we expect from you?
Jasmine Guillory Thank you so much! I draw inspiration from so many of the women in my life -- my mom, other family members, my wonderful friends, professors and colleagues and mentors, they've all inspired me. As for what you can expect next, my next book, PARTY OF TWO, comes out this summer, I hope you love it!

First of all, I love your work! I have ripped through 3 of your books already. Do you write with a music playlist? Also, where did you find inspiration for The Wedding Date, The Proposal, and The Wedding Party? When you were writing the first, did you imagine the storyline for the other two, or were you just creating this world and decided that the other two couples needed their own story?
Jasmine Guillory I often make a playlist for each book, but I never listen to the playlist while I'm writing; I listen when I'm running errands or walking around, but it often inspires new ideas for what I'm working on. And the idea for THE WEDDING PARTY came while I was writing THE WEDDING DATE; when I wrote the scene in THE WEDDING DATE that's Theo's birthday party and had Theo and Maddie interact for the first time, I thought "Oooh, these two are going to hook up later tonight!" It took a while after I finished THE WEDDING DATE to come up with the idea for THE PROPOSAL, though -- I knew I wanted to write a story for Carlos, but I didn't know what it would be, and then I suddenly had the idea and knew it was perfect for him.

What’s your favorite romantic trope?
Jasmine Guillory I looooove fake dating, which is probably why my first book was all about that!

What's the best vacation you've ever been on or favorite place you visited? And has travel been an influence in any of your novels ?
Jasmine Guillory The best vacation is every vacation I've taken to Hawaii! And my trips to London were definitely a big influence for ROYAL HOLIDAY, and you might see some other vacation influences in PARTY OF TWO...

Did you have anyone particular in mind when creating the characters of Vivian and Malcolm or are they an amalgamation of a few people? Honestly, i kept think of Idris and Megan Markle’s Mom Daria!
Jasmine Guillory There's a lot of my mom in Vivian, actually! I first wrote the character of Vivian when I wrote THE WEDDING PARTY, and the relationship between Maddie and Vivian is a lot like the relationship between me and my mom.

Before starting to write about Royal Holiday, did you seek out the sights (and sounds) of London recently to get a better feel of the character's especially in the touring of the royal areas? Lastly, did you drink as you write Royal Holiday? I'm wondering if you took tea and crumpets as you envision and get a more London feel for Vivian and Malcolm.
Jasmine Guillory I went on a trip to London a few years before I wrote ROYAL HOLIDAY, and then I went on a research trip as I was writing the book. Both trips helped a ton! I did drink a lot of tea because I wrote the book during a very rainy winter :)

How do you stay motivated while writing? I am an amateur writer and there are times I sit down to write, but everything seems like a dumpster fire. Thank you!
Jasmine Guillory I make myself shut off the rest of the world when I write -- I turn my phone to do not disturb, turn off any notifications on my computer, and just go. Sometimes it's hard to get words out, and sometimes I struggle a lot! On those days I just tell myself "Okay, you just have to keep going for 30 minutes, let's see how much you can write then." And almost every time, I keep going long past those 30 minutes. But the days that I don't, I cut myself slack; we all have bad writing days. The most important thing is to just keep going!
