Kimberly Fish The government mandated that citizens burn their books, papers, pens, and keyboards, proclaiming that storytelling fed insurrection. And the people cooperated.
Kimberly Fish Well, to be fair, I'm currently in God's country of Jackson Hole, Wyoming--and though I don't know of a novel set here, I'd return in a heartbeat. Breathing this air expands more than my lungs, it's stretching my soul to imagine life beyond this old earth. But, to answer your question, I always choose a novel set in southern France because the setting is one that inspires my imagination to walk those lavender-scented backroads and stare off the cliffs to the impossibly beautiful Mediterranean. C.A. Belmont's novels are ones that I re-read for mental vacations. Her settings are deeply ingrained in my box labeled "favorite places."
Kimberly Fish I took Deep Work with me to the doctor's office today and already am figuring out how to unplug from distractions--but not Goodreads, no never. I have a Sebastian Faulk's novel--Birdsong--waiting to be read, right next to some summer-fun books I impulse ordered from Book Bub. There's an Ina Garten cookbook in the mix too. And I still have the new books from Susan Meissner and Lisa Wingate calling my name too. My TBR list is teetering.
Kimberly Fish While living in Germany, and driving through the countryside 40 miles from our village, I skid on "black ice," spun out on the road, nearly clipped a school bus, and landed like a spun saucer in a crop of trees. The school bus driver, the neighboring farmer, and a stranger came to help me from the car, take me to the farmer's house where I could make calls to my husband, and offered to have my car towed to the city. All for the price of the rent money that I had in my purse, and all these people spoke English to me--a miracle since my language skills were limited to shopping and directional questions at the time. Not only did I put my trust in people I'd never met, but everything worked out perfectly. No one was injured, the damage to my car was repairable, and we found another means to pay our rent. I think this mystery happened to me to reveal that even when I though I couldn't be on God's radar with a war raging in the Middle East, and lives in crisis, He went to special lengths to prove that I was, and that He loved me. I was humbled by this mystery, and still count it as one of my favorite memories from life so far.
Kimberly Fish I'm very fond of Penny and Jeremy in C.A. Belmond's series that started with the novel, A Rather Lovely Inheritance. Actually, that series is one of those that I've re-read multiple times. It's kind of like rewatching a favorite movie. And with four books in that series, they're all delightful. I'd definitely have Penny and Jeremy over for dinner.
Kimberly Fish Get away from the desk, take a walk, drink tea, and nap. Sometimes in that order, sometimes not.
Kimberly Fish Disappearing into a world you've created and might possibly know the way around.
Kimberly Fish Sit at the desk and write.
Kimberly Fish I'm currently working on the second book in the series, Misfits and Millionaires.
Kimberly Fish I can't help but write. It's been my all consuming thought since I was about thirteen. How it happens will vary, and certainly the quality of my work reveals how much time and effort go into construction, but inspiration has never been my problem. Time, digging deep, and effort . . . now that's a different topic.
Kimberly Fish I spent a few months researching another project when I kept bumping against elements of local history that few seemed to know about. I couldn't resist digging deeper to find a story that I could reveal to my community that would remind everyone that crazy big ideas really do happen, occasionally save the day, and in the process, heal old hurts. A good lesson to remember.
