I love creative writing. Aside from the writing itself, knowing a reader cares about one of your stories is among the very best things.

I don't really remember having significant writer's block. But when faced with a problem in a piece, generally I continue to work, keep trying. Other times, I walk away for periods of time, to let the story breathe and to allow myself to come back with a fresh perspective.

So many books are on my summer reading list! I want to finish Crystal King's novel, Feast of Sorrows. I want to read more of the Reginald Hill mystery series set in Yorkshire. I want to read Ron Rash--never read him. Can you believe it?

I advise aspiring writers to write--to sit down and start. It's easy to talk about writing and to think about writing, but it can be very hard to actually work on it. I also advise writers to be kind to themselves. It's easy to feel discouraged as a writer (or artist or singer). Try not to be hard on yourself as well.

I write across genres so I am finishing a novel-in-stories (three of the stories from my collection are also in the novel), and I am also editing a middle grade novel and a picture book!
