Hi Laura! I'm a YA librarian in the US and I was wondering if there are any plans to publish A Girl Called Shameless in the States? I have The Exact Opposite of Okay in our collection and I'm really hoping to be able to add the sequel as well!
Laura Steven omg i'm sorry i've literally been locked out of my goodreads for two years! but unfortunately there are no plans for AGCS at the moment. however, if enough people buy TEOOO it's possible, so keep recommending, and thank you so much for all you do <3

What was the most difficult part and most fun part about writing Izzy's character? How did her voice take shape for you?
Laura Steven Her voice came to me fully formed, sarcasm and all. The hardest part was making her flawed and imperfect while still likable. I wanted the reader to root for her even when she makes questionable life choices. It's a fine balance!

Hi Laura, I've just finished reading The Exact Opposite of Okay and absolutely loved it. Izzy really made me think of an older Georgia Nicolson in her humour and tone. She's a great character. I was just wondering why you decided to set the book in the US? I was surprised when I found out that you from the northernmost town in England. I had to go through the book again and see if I'd made up that Izzy was American.
Laura Steven Hey! I'm so glad you enjoyed the book. I decided to set the book in the US because revenge porn (the leaking of an explicit image or video without consent) is illegal in the UK. I wanted to focus more on the emotional aftermath rather than a lawsuit!

Hi Laura, I've just read The Exact Opposite of Okay and loved it. Was your main character's name a little reference to another author? 😁 And will there be any follow up? I'd love to know what happens afterwards.
Laura Steven Hey Barker! I'm so glad you loved the book! Izzy's surname is indeed a reference to one Louise O'Neill, who has been a huge inspiration to me since we first became online pals back in 2014. I have so much love for both her work and her as a person.

And YES, there will be a sequel! I'm working on it now, actually. It'll be out in 2019, I believe, and if you want the inside scoop on what it'll be about, check the video I just uploaded to YouTube :)
