Rachel Dodge She searched the space where her bookshelves once sat but found instead other ordinary furniture in its place. She reached for the stack of books on her bedside table but found only dust.
Rachel Dodge Either the Secret Garden or Green Gables and Avonlea from Anne of Green Gables!
Rachel Dodge It happens every day, in all kinds of ways. I get a lot of creative bursts during worship at church, when driving, when talking to my hubby or a good friend, when I'm at writing conferences. I also have times of no inspiration. I know I need to get rest and get filled up when that happens.
Rachel Dodge I'm working on a devotional based on another favorite author, as well as a fictional series for girls (9-12).
Rachel Dodge Keep working, keep writing, keep praying. Make sure you're going to writer's conference that are geared toward your area of writing. Make friends. Ask questions. Be humble. Be open to new direction. Seek the Lord. He may open an unexpected door. "Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Rachel Dodge The ideas, the creativity, the world you can build with words, the words themselves...
Rachel Dodge Lots of prayer! It really helps me to take some time away, reflect, journal, do other things, go to church, hang out with my family, so that I can get a fresh creative burst. I also love to brainstorm with a friend or family member when I get blocked. I teach my writing students to free write, so I do that as well
Rachel Dodge I've been studying Jane Austen for years. I love all of her books. As a Christian, her faith always intrigued me. I began to study her prayers in depth several years ago, writing my own reflections and personal application as I went. I began to see more and more spiritual and biblical themes emerge in her novels. As I wrote my reflections on her prayers, line by line, it began to form itself into a devotional. As I "prayed with Jane," I realized that spending 31 days -- only one month -- with her prayers could make a huge impact on someone's life, faith, and prayer life. Writing this book was pure joy. God opened the doors for me to write and publish this book, and I hope it will touch many readers as they themselves pray with Jane. I loved researching Austen's family, her religion, and her books to see how her faith influenced her writing!
