I don't read a lot of books with fictional places, but what really sticks in my mind is watching Harry Potter shopping for all the tools he'd need for Hogwarts. I love small winding streets with specialty shops. I hate that our shopping areas have become so dull and cookie cutter.

I'd like to tour around Scotland and Ireland soon so this summer I'm focusing on historical fiction centered on these two countries. I'm currently reading "The Letter Home" by Rachel English about Ireland and the famine. It's an excellent read.

Growing up, my parents were anti-Semitic. Recently, I did a DNA test and found out I'm 29% Jewish. My parents both passed, so I can't ask them to explain, but I'm curious to solve the mystery of who my father's father was. And it's certainly possible my father had no idea his father wasn't related to him.
