Iris, your review of Lila by Rose Ross is very moving as you seem to understand the trauma that children of survivors suffer. My novel, Escaping the Whale, features a protagonist who is the adult daughter of Holocaust survivors struggling with her legacy of inherited trauma and trying to be 'normal' in 1980 New York. Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Iris Dorbian From the real-life Shakespeare in the Courts project that's been operating in the Berkshires for nearly 20 years. I first found out about the program when I was editor-in-chief of a technical theater trade publication. However, the story is fictionalized.

Can you tell us a two-sentence horror story?

Iris Dorbian After two years of unemployment, she was thrilled to finally land a job--and in her dream industry, no less.

"Is there anything else you need, Mr. Weinstein?" she asked her new boss, who had been screaming at the top of his lungs for his new secretary to put all his calls on hold, close the door and give him a naked massage.

What books are on your summer reading list this year?

Iris Dorbian I like to read some of the books I placed on my Goodreads' to read list, such as "Down and Out in Paris and London" by George Orwell and "The White Princess" by Philippa Gregory. I'm open to suggestions for other summer reading books!
