Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Martha Miller I read some lesbian YA books and thought that I could do better. I had a lot of fun with it.

How do you get inspired to write?

Martha Miller I love writing. That's all it is. Now that I'm retired, I have more time to write. My latest (yet unpublished) book is a Young Adult Mystery. I don't remember why I read two YA Mysteries and I thought, 'I can do better than that." So I took a shot. I guess the ultimate answer is I read a lot.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Martha Miller People think you know how to preform magic. Of course, it isn't magic, it's a lot of work. I think you have to love it to keep working at it. I do love it.

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Martha Miller I get some rest. Usually it's not writer's block but writer's depletion. Sometimes I have to read or watch TV to get going. My first husband used to say, "A change is as good as a rest." He wasn't talking about writing--but it applies.
