Howard Shrier Listening to the stories of my father and other relatives about growing up in Montreal`s colourful east end (though then they just called it poor.) I heard thousands of stories over the years and have wanted to set a story there for years.
Howard Shrier Mostly be being a news junkie, constantly reading, scouring, devouring things. Example: a three-paragraph story about Westerners going to China to jump organ donation lines sparked my third Jonah Geller novel, Boston Cream. The gist of the news item was that the number of these transplant tourists was outnumbering executed criminals -- suppposedly the only source of organs in the country. Jonah never went to China but the book did focus on organ theft in Boston.
Howard Shrier Right this minute, a graphic interactive crime story for the Toronto Star, Saturday 10/18/14. Over the longer run, a novel set in Montreal, 1950, when it Canada's unquestioned Sin City.
Howard Shrier Being able to lie on the couch and read and call it work.
