I believe that the best place to grasp a proper idea about Sushruta would be the primary source, i.e. Sushruta Samhita. The English translation of that text, done by Kaviraj Kunjalal Bhishagratna, is published by Motilal Banarsidass in 3 volumes. Regarding the identity of Sushruta, "A History of Indian Medical Literature Vol. 1A" edited by G. Jan Meulenbeld, would be the besr source.

In my humble opinion, A.P Jamkhedkar's "Ajanta: Monumental Legacy" (Oxford University Press) and M.K Dhavalikar's "Ellora: Monumental Legacy" (Oxford University Press) are the best introductory as well as informative texts on these topics. I would strongly recommend that you go through them with utmost diligence, which can then be followed up by more in-depth articles. All the best.

I haven’t come across any recent versions. Rushati Sen's review of Meruna Murmu's work had piqued my curiosity. But I couldn’t find any printed book available in the market.

Certainly. The work had originally been published in Bamabodhini magazine, as far as I know. Subsequently it had been serialised in 'Masik Basumati' magazine. It was published again in Ekshan (এক্ষণ) Sharadiya 1388 (1981). These are all Bengali versions only, goes without saying.

It's very difficult to find details about Kanishka in one single book. Most of the things that we know about him comes from area-specific studies like those investigating the Silk Road and other cultural as well as politico-economic movements in Central Asia. As a result, there are nuggets of information spread across many threads and sources. Nevertheless, Pallavi Prasad's "The Kushanas in the Indian Subcontinent" is recent, and rather well-regarded. I suggest that, apart from the material to be found in Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Series Vol. II, Dr. Prasad's work can act as a credible reference.

Apart from the stalwarts whose works you have already read, I am really unable to recommend any more. However, Dibakar Bhattacharya had a unique style that elevated his stories to a different level. You can start with those, especially his first collection "চরাচরসারে".
