K.P. Roberson Don't give up. You may only have a handful of people read your stuff, or it could be hundreds. As long as you enjoy the story you are telling, others will, too. Secondly, find your people and ask their advice. I found a welcoming and helpful indie writing community on Twitter. When I feel imposter syndrome creeping in, I remember there are others who are in the same boat who have written awesome books. There's bound to be someone out there who loves what I write just as much.
K.P. Roberson Inspiration comes in many forms. Sometimes, it comes in a dream or by people-watching. Most times, inspiration to write a story comes from a random though or encounter, whether online or offline.
K.P. Roberson Between the Birches started out as an Appalachian Haint story, then evolved into a romance. I know it sounds stupid, but my husband and I were rewatching the movies and I was like, “I can do this better.” Unfortunately, my heart wasn’t into the whole sparkly vampires thing, so I went more cosmic horror… with romance! It has built since it’s inception 2-3 years ago and I love the direction and groove I’ve found.
K.P. Roberson Several projects! I have a solid timeline for Between the Birches Book 2, am alpha reading L. Krauch’s last book in the 13th Zodiac series, and am doing monthly book reviews with my Twitter pals via The Picky Bookwork Podcast. You may have heard of the Golden Girls Book Club. Also, I am still posting Stardew Fanfic on AO3 when I get the chance.
K.P. Roberson It’s the perfect outlet for my imagination to run free. All of the story ideas, characters, and scenes forming in my brain create a loop. Writing gives them a way of being seen, therefore, quieting my brain.
K.P. Roberson I write something anyways… anything. Doesn’t have to be related to my current WIP or useable in the story, just write. I’ve also found participating in the vss prompts on Twitter to be freeing when the creative juices aren’t flowing.
