Keith D. Jones Best thing, seriously? You think I want to do this? Okay, how about this. The best thing about being a writer is that it keeps me from going completely insane. Not writing. Not composing. Not doing something creative. Just makes me angry. I'm no fun to be around when I'm not expressing myself creatively. See my other answer about the gushing blood and drowning in my own urine or whatever the hell it was I wrote.
Keith D. Jones Depends on how you define it. Definition I like is any time you find yourself doing something else when you meant to write is writer's block. The kind I run into is typically exhaustion or day-job stress. That's just a matter of accepting the exhaustion or stress and understanding that time is needed to recharge. If that carries on too long, then it's time to write something. Anything. A few lines. A paragraph. Gibberish. It really doesn't matter. The point is to keep things moving. I've also been known to vary things up as best I could. Write at the computer when that works. Write with a pen when that helps. Write with a different colored pen when necessary. Write with a pencil.
Keith D. Jones That's a misleading question. Don't write because you are inspired. Write because you don't have a choice. The stories leaking from you like blood, vomiting forth all over the page. Write because the alternative is to choke to death, drowning in the stories and ideas lodged in your throat trying desperately to claw their way free. Inspiration is for lazy cowards and hacks.
