K.M. Weiland Hey, Ruby! I would rate all of my currently available novels (Behold the Dawn, Dreamlander, Storming, and Wayfarer) PG-13 for violence. There are some adult themes in Behold the Dawn, but nothing graphic.
K.M. Weiland I have a few ideas brewing, which I hope to work on next year. :)
K.M. Weiland Yes! As a matter of fact, a full-cast audio dramatization of Wayfarer just came out: https://www.helpingwritersbecomeautho...
K.M. Weiland Nothing's for sure yet. I always intended sequels for the book, but tried to tie it off enough that it could stand on its own as well. I haven't yet decided for sure what I'm going to be working on next, but it may well be a Wayfarer sequel. :)
K.M. Weiland It really depends on the story--and the characters. But the best rule of thumb for what to include is always: What moves the plot--i.e., what changes the story?
K.M. Weiland Glad to hear you're enjoying the blog! Ultimately, the same writing principles apply for everyone, regardless of age. A good place to start is my series on story structure: https://www.helpingwritersbecomeautho...
K.M. Weiland At this point, I'm actually not sure that it will. I've shelved it, at least temporarily, as I take a fiction-writing sabbatical this year. :(
K.M. Weiland Yes! It's in the works and should be available within the next couple of months.
K.M. Weiland I've written some about my fantasy worldbuilding process here: https://www.helpingwritersbecomeautho...

In the post, I link to a fantastic worldbuilding questionnaire from Patricia C. Wrede. It's my go-to resource.
K.M. Weiland Yes! I'm currently at work on a book called Writing Your Story's Theme. I hope to have it out before the end of the year.
K.M. Weiland Thanks for your note! I'm so glad you enjoyed Wayfarer. That makes my day! :)

A couple things influenced my use of period language in the book.

One was just a life-long immersion in books of the period, both historical and classical.

Beyond that, I took special note while in research mode of period-specific words and phrases. I ran universal find/replace searches for straight-up switches (e.g., "by the bye" for "by the way" or "betwixt" for "between"). I also kept a list of words and phrases in my research notes, which I referred to regularly to refresh my memory.

Finally, I found this "Regency Lexicon" to be invaluable: http://www.regencyassemblypress.com/R... Whenever I felt in need of more color or accuracy in my language, I referred to this to see if I could come up with a proper alternative.
K.M. Weiland Good question. I had to think about it. I'm going to say "meaning," not just a personal level but on a universal level. I want a life's narrative of depth and truth, one that never runs out of resonant revelations.
K.M. Weiland Just a bit of marketing experimentation. I was toying with a nominal pen name for my fiction, but have decided to switch it back to my usual spelling. Sorry for any confusion!
K.M. Weiland Hmm, I'd never thought about that before! The Guard is huge, much bigger than just those men who guard Allara and the royal family. I always envisioned Talan being stationed in the borderlands, so he probably would never have met Allara, although it's possible he might have seen her before. She probably wouldn't have even noticed him.

But it is an interesting question!
K.M. Weiland Soon! I moved to a new state last month and life kind of ran away with me. But Wayfarer should be out within a couple weeks. I'm going to be trying it under a new pen name (K.M. Wyland), so search for it that way.
K.M. Weiland Thanks, Jillian! Wayfarer is coming out later this year--probably late summer or early fall. :)
