(view spoiler)[I got the idea from my life! I'm Jenna, just not as well-dressed or brave. Much like her, I'd had a glamorous, exciting career as a magazine editor -- and then suddenly, in my late-thirties, the rug got pulled out from under me (laid off, divorce, depression, the worst). I had to completely reinvent myself, from scratch. I was in a dark place for a couple of years. Then, one day, I decided I needed to invent a superhero alter ego who was going through similar things, but came out on top! That was Jenna, and the story became The Perfect Find.
Plus, I had my own romance with a very young guy, too. I couldn’t make it work in real life, so I wanted it to happen somewhere! I felt like there were a lot of fun places I could go with that generation gap. Jenna’s 40, but she’s in love with a guy who became legal, like, yesterday. What she wants and what he wants are drastically different.
Life is messy and unpredictable. What do you do when the universe hands you a love that’s on-paper absurd, but so, so delicious? Do you run with it, or walk away? I I didn’t have money for therapy at the time, so I worked out my personal love struggle through Jenna and Eric!

A new novel! It's not a sequel to The Perfect Find, but some of the characters MIGHT make an appearance. :)

The hands-down best thing about being a writer is discovering that your words have actually made someone laugh, or cry, or feel seen. It never gets old.

Write every day! Take classes, if you haven't. Read everything that's in front of you, but not while you're actively writing (you could unconsciously absorb and replicate that writers style/content/dialogue; it happens to all of us). Find a trustworthy beta reader. Keep going!

I always get inspired by my real-life experiences. For me, fiction is the truth, amplified times a thousand. It's the only way I know how to access real emotion in my characters! If I had to write about, like, a Danish astronaut who was secretly a spy and also a concert violinist, I wouldn't know where to start.

Poorly. I marathon Real Housewives. Eat everything. Sob bitterly. Writer's block is the worst, but I think the key to beating it is writing every day - whether you're inspired or not. The work might not be great, but at least you'll have *something.* It's easier to edit an awkward chapter than to face an empty page!

Hey Shamekia! So happy you liked it! If you haven't, check out my first novel, The Accidental Diva (it's about Billie and Jay!). I also wrote a YA series called It Chicks. I'm working on a new one now, hopefully I'll be finished by end of year :)

Hi Merica! So sorry, I don't know how I missed this! I've been customizing discussion questions for different book clubs. Let me know if you'd still like some!
