Emily Liebert From a very young age, I was interested in telling stories in great detail (occasionally embellished). I always knew I wanted to do something in the field of journalism, whether behind the scenes or in front of the camera. Being an author has a nice mix of both!
Emily Liebert You could record yourself speaking the story and have it transcribed (there are services that do this). Or, maybe ask a family member or friend to help you. You can tell the story and they can write. Hope this helps!
Emily Liebert A child was kidnapped. He was never found.
Emily Liebert Currently I'm working on two books so haven't had the luxury of reading for pleasure...so I'm looking forward to having some time to do so this summer! I want to finish The Good Girl by Mary Kubica. The Couple Next Door is also on my list. And Jane Green's new book The Sunshine Sisters!
Emily Liebert I wish I was that interesting! These days, the biggest mystery in my life is where one of my kids lost something :)
Emily Liebert The Sound of Gravel. SO heart wrenching, but beautifully written.
Emily Liebert Anne of Green Gables and Gilbert Blythe! Love that he was smug to begin with and she rejected his efforts and then they grew to fall in love!
Emily Liebert Hi Daniel! Sounds like you'd benefit from writing an outline first. This will allow you to organize your thoughts. Then, once that's done, you'll know where your story is going. If your brain starts going wild, you'll have direction and focus. Also make sure there aren't any distractions around when it's time to write (i.e. phone, email, TV etc...)
Emily Liebert The main characters in WHEN WE FALL--Allison and Charlotte--are based on two of my close friends. Their stories are not exactly the same, but aspects of their personalities are and, in some instances, they've experienced similar circumstances.
Emily Liebert My office inspires me. We just moved to a new home and I was able to design an office conducive to writing. Also, I think before I write--whether it's in the shower or while I'm driving home from dropping my kids at school. This way, by the time I get to my computer, the juices are already flowing.
Emily Liebert I'm currently promoting my new novel WHEN WE FALL which published on September 2nd! I'm also in edits on my third novel Those Secrets We Keep and about to start writing an as-yet-title fourth novel!
Emily Liebert Write what you're passionate about. Write what you know. Write as often as you can. And develop a thick skin! Everyone gets rejected. If someone slams a door in your face, kick it in!
Emily Liebert Being able to make up characters and situations to my heart's content. Oh, and the day you hold the first copy of each book in your hand.
Emily Liebert On a good day, I force myself to sit down and write a least one paragraph. Typically once I've done that, things start to flow. That said, if I'm really not feeling it, I take it as a sign that I need the day off from writing to actually think about the direction of the novel.
