If you could travel to any fictional book world, where would you go and what would you do there?
Alex J. Cavanaugh I would like to visit Terry Brooks' world of Shannara, but it might be a little too dangerous. I think Narnia would have to be my pick. First thing I would do is find Aslan.

What books are on your summer reading list this year?
Alex J. Cavanaugh I have several author friends' books I plan to tackle - L.X. Cain, Joylene Nowell Butler, Lynda R. Young, and Chrys Fey.

What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?
Alex J. Cavanaugh What does he really look like...? I could be the mysterious boss no one ever meets, or mysterious mobster like Keyser Soze from The Usual Suspects.

Who is your favorite fictional couple, and why?
Alex J. Cavanaugh I'd have to go with Westley and Buttercup from The Princess Bride. Very sweet book and movie.

How long have you been writing? Have you ever written a book on personal experience, and if not do you think you ever would?
Alex J. Cavanaugh Hey Marie! I wrote some as a teen but didn't start seriously considering writing a book for publication until about eight-nine years ago.
I've never written anything based on personal experience. My life is rather average, so I doubt I could make it interesting enough for a story!

Okay then if you were to compare yourself who would you compare your writings with or are you totally different, and you are just like you? Would you say you're books are fantasy, fictional, non-fictional, mystery, murder, scarey... etc....
Alex J. Cavanaugh I'm a little bit like Heinlein and Timothy Zahn. Both were early influences.
My books are all space opera and character driven.

I am reading Stephen King's The Gunslinger & there are 7 books. Have you read The Gunslinger, and do you write stories such as these? Similar?
Alex J. Cavanaugh I've never read The Gunslinger so I'm not sure if my books are similar.

If you were to compare your style of writing to another's who would it be?
Alex J. Cavanaugh I've been compared to Robert A. Heinlein, which is a great honor. I did read a lot of his books when I was younger, so it obviously influenced me.

Do you plan on making audiobooks for any of your books (Cassastar series or Dragon of the Stars)? Thanks!
Alex J. Cavanaugh Hey Solana! At the moment, my publisher has no plans to make audiobooks. Sorry about that!

How do you deal with writer’s block?
Alex J. Cavanaugh I never get it while writing, probably because I spend months planning the outlines for my books.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?
Alex J. Cavanaugh All the amazing people I have met during the journey. You can't put a price tag on friendship.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
Alex J. Cavanaugh Write because you enjoy it. And learn as much as you can before hitting the publication trail. Trust me!

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Alex J. Cavanaugh From a song. It told one story, and I conceived a new one that includes all of the lines, but in a different order. Once the contract is set with my publisher, I will reveal the song.
