Sam Knight Piers Anthony's Xanth, where I would catalog, but maybe not sample, every form of edible magic plant, starting with buttercups, which I definitely would sample.
Sam Knight Who keeps leaving unrinsed dishes in the sink? Everyone denies it. All three of us. Yet, there they are, clear as spaghetti sauce on Tupperware.
Sam Knight All eyes, hundreds of them, are on me, anxiously waiting for me to begin speaking. But, being a last minute stand-in at the convention, I have no idea what this panel is supposed to be about, or who these people sitting next to me are...
Sam Knight Juggling multiple projects allows me to still do something when I start to "get stuck" on a project. This helps me prevent the loss of momentum, which is, I think the real key. Once you allow yourself to stop, it is really hard to get going again.
Sam Knight Meeting other people. Other writers, and people who love to read, are nearly universally fun to be around.
Sam Knight Make sure you learn how to finish a story. The biggest obstacle new writers face is never completing anything.
Sam Knight Random things inspire me, but the most common are turns of phrases I hear in songs, commercials, or passing conversations. For some reason these trigger me to start imagining who would say such a thing, or in what situation would anyone say it, when would it be funny (like a one-liner in an 80's action film), and when would it be the most horrific thing you could say to someone. Having all those thoughts race through my mind, competing to be first, after someone says something random, like "hart to hart," or "toe to toe" can be a lot of fun, leading me to laugh out loud at random times, and garnering strange looks from those around me.
Sam Knight My current project was inspired by a recent vacation to the Bahamas, mixed with a bit of watching too many British crime dramas.
