“Why is there a sequel to THE SHADOW QUEEN?

TSQ is the first book in a series of epic fantasy fairy tale re-imaginings. So while there is a "sequel," it too is a stand alone. ” C.J. Redwine

C.J. Redwine Leo is one of my fave characters! He wasn't inspired by anyone I know in real life. He just waltzed onto the page and began talking. :)
C.J. Redwine So sorry that I'm just now seeing this! Yes, there are four in the series so far. The Wish Granter came out this past February, The Traitor Prince comes out this coming February, and book four comes out in 2019.
C.J. Redwine Sorry that I'm just now seeing this! Yes, it's a series of stand alone companion novels. You can read them in any order, although there are small cameos that you'll enjoy if you do read them in order. Not sure yet how long the series will be (currently I'm contracted for four books). I'd love to do ten in total, but we'll see!
C.J. Redwine Hi there! I'm not sure. It hasn't sold to any publishers there yet. Is it possible to order it from Book Depository? They ship all over the place.
C.J. Redwine THE SHADOW QUEEN is the perfect book for lovers of epic fantasy and the original Grimm's fairy tales. I grew up reading both, and so writing this book was like giving myself a present with all the things I love the best inside the pages! There's magic, dragon shape-shifters, political shenanigans, a fugitive princess who does parkour, a powerful sorceress, plenty of epic battle scenes, and some kissing. If that sounds like your kind of book, then THE SHADOW QUEEN is for you.

C.J. Redwine The next book in the series comes out in February of 2017. It's a companion novel set in a different kingdom and based off of a different fairy tale. :)

C.J. Redwine Good eye! Yes, I used combinations of Russian root words for the incantors.
C.J. Redwine Thank you! I'm so glad you loved Defiance. For years, I'd had the idea of a huge, Leviathon-like creature who lived underground and who, if awakened, would destroy much of the earth. I had no story or world to put that creature in, so it just sat in the back of my brain. Then one day I was browsing Pinterest, as one does, and I saw the pic of a fortress that reminded me of a city-state. I was immediately intrigued by the idea of writing a story where we live in city-states again, and I asked myself "why would we do that?" And suddenly the Leviathon-like creature had a purpose and a story.

It wasn't until I was 1/4 of the way into writing Defiance that I realized I was writing a story about what it looks like to be hurt and broken and to rise up and find your way toward healing and wholeness.
C.J. Redwine I don't think the cover designers ever really considered putting Logan on the cover (though clearly the story is half his), but that was more for series branding than for anything else. They wanted anyone who walked into a bookstore to see Deception and Deliverance and immediately know they were looking at part of the Defiance series.

I've always seen Logan as a younger Chris Pine. :)
C.J. Redwine There will be brief cameos of other characters (both from past and future books) starting in book 2. I can't talk about all of the retellings yet, but I can say that book 2 is the next chapter in the life of Rumplestiltskin--he'll grant your most desperate wish, but it will cost you your soul.
C.J. Redwine I don't know. I'd love to see them made into movies if the budget was big enough to do it right. (The CGI alone ...!) But I have no control over whether a studio expresses interest in the books. Maybe someday. :)
C.J. Redwine Not yet, but I would LOVE to have The Shadow Queen published in France!
