Hi Brittany!
Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, I don't have any updates to share on the status of the movie. It's been stuck in development for over 10 years now, and periodically, there's a new producer interested and/or a new shopping agreement. But so far, no one has been able to advance the project beyond the script stage. And now with the WGA being on strike, all of Hollywood has ground to a halt.
I think the odds of seeing T.J. and Anna on the big (or little) screen someday are pretty low, but I always have hope. Fingers crossed!
Best,
Tracey

(view spoiler)[Hello!
Thank you for your question and thank you for loving the story. When I initially wrote The Girl He Used to Know, I included a double epilogue (Jonathan's chapter was first followed by Annika's). The epilogue was set ten years in the future. My agent didn't want to include the epilogue when we went out on submission with the manuscript. I believe the thought process was that the book would not appeal to as many markets with the epilogue; to be honest, I never did quite understand why it would be a hindrance, and I've mourned the exclusion ever since. Readers have been asking for an epilogue or sequel since the book came out. I totally understand why! I love love love epilogues.
I don't have enough story for a sequel, but I'm hoping to get the double epilogue posted somewhere -- maybe on my website or maybe as bonus content in an upcoming book. I promise I'll do my best to make it happen if at all possible.
Thank you so much for reaching out!

I talked to you on Instagram last year about this and OMG I'm still waiting for the double epilogue. Maybe an easy way would be sending it to readers
I talked to you on Instagram last year about this and OMG I'm still waiting for the double epilogue. Maybe an easy way would be sending it to readers in your newsletter as bonus content to them, but I'll be here for whatever you decide, just know we readers will be waiting until you figure out what to do. I love Annika so much and I'm so grateful for this book and how it helped me.

Hi, Mariia!
I first realized myself as a writer when I completed the manuscript for On the Island. Once it was revised, edited, and polished, I felt like I could call myself a writer. I had written a novel which was the goal I'd hoped to accomplish. This feeling was enhanced when I published the book, and it was reinforced when readers started recommending the title to others. It's a mindset that continues to grow with each of my published novels and the support I receive from my readers.
Best,
Tracey

Hi, Joseph,
The film adaptation has not been affected by Covid because we are still, as you mentioned, in development hell. There is still activity surrounding the project, but nothing that involves casting or filming. I'm hopeful that someday, I'll have more definitive updates to share. For now, my fingers remain crossed as always.

Hi, Mariia!
I can answer this question easily because I still remember it like it was yesterday. About a month after self-publishing On the Island, I received my first email from a reader in another country. She had read the book and then written to let me know how much she loved it. I remember reading the email on a Saturday morning and feeling completely blown away that someone in another country had heard about the book from a friend. Then she'd bought it, read it, loved it, and was writing to tell me. I had had a disastrous path to publication as I'd been rejected by every agent I'd queried and had self-published the book in the hope that maybe there would be a reader or two out there who might find the book and enjoy it. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would reach a reader halfway around the world. That's when I realized that word-of-mouth recommendations were starting to happen for On the Island, and those recommendations would later go on to put the book on bestseller lists.
I've been writing ever since.
Readers, please don't ever underestimate the power of how your kind words can affect an author and give them the motivation to keep writing. Writing and publishing On the Island has truly been the most joyous experience of my life and I'm thankful that it gave me the ability to become a full-time writer.
All my best,
Tracey

(view spoiler)[Hi, Cindi,
Thank you so much!! I'm thrilled that you thought it was amazing. That is wonderful to hear. When I first started outlining the book and trying to get a feel for the characters, I had a difficult time figuring Annika out. I knew she looked at the world differently than Jonathan - that was the core conflict. But I didn't know why. As I spent more time on the manuscript, I realized that Annika would never change to make her world view match Jonathan's. It wasn't because she didn't want to; it was because that was the way her brain was wired. I wanted to write a story where the hero loved the heroine just the way she was. I felt like that would be a much more interesting story to write. So, no Fragile X but definitely a woman who was on the spectrum and who also had a lot of anxiety. I did have to do extensive research and it was very important to me that I show the reader what a wonderful person Annika was and how everyone she encountered realized the special gifts she brought to the relationship. I really loved Annika and Jonathan and their love story.

Sorry, Larisa! I'm just now seeing your question.
As for book updates, the pre-order links for my next book will be available on December 10th (give or take a day) and I'll be sharing information about it then.
No, book trailers are usually separate from movie trailers. No new updates about any movie news at this time. I'm still hoping, though!
Best,
Tracey

Hi, Jaden!
Thank you. I'm so happy to hear that you enjoyed the book. I wrote a double epilogue set 10 years into the future that ended up not making it into the book, but I'm hoping I can share it at some point (one epilogue was from Annika's POV and the other was from Jonathan's). But to answer your questions, yes! Jonathan and Annika did get married and they are living very happily along with their two daughters.
For what it's worth, I am Team Epilogue but this book leans a little more toward women's fiction where things aren't always tied up so completely.
I hope this answers your question. :)

Hi, Sue!
First of all, thank you for loving my books so much that you re-read them. That is the highest praise for an author. Secondly, having a reader who wants to read everything you release is a truly cherished reader. I can't speak for every author, but I know that each book I write will resonate differently with my readers. They'll have their favorites or a certain book will be more relatable (because we filter everything we read through our own personal experiences). But knowing that I have readers who look forward to -- and will read -- everything I write is appreciated more than you know. So, thank you for that!
I am turning in my 9th book at the end of next week (barring any unforeseen circumstances). Once my editor and publisher have had a chance to weigh in and we've discussed the cover, blurb, etc... I will absolutely share the details. What I can tell you is that it's another relationship book featuring two people who have some big hurdles to clear, both personally and romantically, so that they can find their happily-ever-after. I can't wait to tell you all about it. xoxo
Best,
Tracey

Hi, Olga,
The film version of On the Island is stalled at the script stage so don't worry, you haven't missed it! I'm not sure if we'll ever see Anna and T.J.'s story on the big screen, but my fingers remain crossed. Rest assured, if the movie ever happens, I will let everyone know (I'll shout it from the rooftops!). :)

Hi, Susan!
Wow! I'm happy to hear that you had such an emotional response to the story and that you'll be checking out my other books.
As for your question about my books being equally emotional, I do try to get to the heart of a matter whether it's a relationship problem the main couple is dealing with or an outside force that threatens them. Often, this results in strong emotions. But of my eight titles, you may find some more emotional than others.
Here's a link to my website which will give you the descriptions of my other books. This might help you decide which story to read next. https://traceygarvisgraves.com/best-s...

Hi Grace,
I've always been a voracious reader and had thought about writing a book but had never actually attempted it. Then, when both of my kids were in school and I had gone back to work, I started thinking about it again. I decided to put it on my bucket list and see if I could cross it off. I began getting up every day at 5:00 and I wrote for an hour and a half before going to my day job. After about 18 months of daily progress, I had written my first full-length novel, On the Island. I'm happy to say that I've been writing ever since and now writing novels is my day job.
My favorite song is "Africa" by Toto. It's my ring tone and all my friends can answer this question about me without hesitation. LOL. I'm also a huge classic rock/70s music fan. I especially love The Eagles and Elton John, and music is a huge creative motivator for me. I can't listen to it while I'm actually writing, but I plot a lot of my books in the car while I'm driving and listening to music. Also, I often have no clue what's going on musically with current pop music because I rarely listen to it. My kids are now 17 and 20 (and driving around in their own cars) so I don't turn over to the pop stations much.
Thanks for your questions!
Best,
Tracey

Hi, Heidi!
First of all, thank you so much for loving my books. I'm thrilled to hear that you're making your way through my titles and that you're excited for more. That's wonderful! Regarding the On the Island movie: the project is stalled at the script stage and there's no way to know if it will ever move forward. I really hope it does because there are so many people (myself included) who would love to see Anna and T.J.'s story on the big screen. Rest assured, if anything happens with the project I'll announce it on my social media channels as soon as I get the go-ahead. In the meantime, I guess we'll have to keep our fingers crossed and be patient (which is hard for me!).

Hi, Bobby,
No, you are not the first guy to have read The Girl He Used to Know. There have been a few others who have written to me. I'm always thrilled when my book reaches a wide audience, so thank you for selecting and enjoying the book. I love that!
When I write a book, I draw on a mix of personal experiences and my own imagination (as well as a lot of research). I consider myself a storyteller, so I try to tell the story to the best of my ability. I'm happy to hear that you think my writing skills are of the highest quality. That makes my day!
