If you aren't patient, learn how to be. If you go traditional, you have to be patient to find an agent, a publisher, for the industry to get the book out. If you indie publish, you have to be patient about your time (marketing vs. writing, how do you do both?) and about book sales. With indie publishing, it starts slow and builds.
Most of all, you need to love working with words, because whether it's for marketing or your next fiction, they will be the tool you spend most of your time with.

I have always had such a crazy, active imagination. I love having a way to get those ideas out of my head!

Most days I don't need inspiration but twice as much time. I am still learning about marketing my own work in today's industry and I just recently published a novella.
But when I do need inspiration, I'm likely to watch movies that have something I'm looking for -- a character like the one I want to write, a situation that brings out the emotion I'm trying to write, and other goals along that line.
I also do the same with books, although sometimes I'm burnt out on words (since I play with them all day) so don't really feel like writing.

I had an idea for my first book, Deadly Memories, but eventually realized that I would not be able to fit the emotional arc I wanted into a single book. Not if I wanted to write a thriller -- and I did! So, I mapped out that arc and decided it would take four books to take the characters through the entire growth I had in mind and I'd just wrap each book in a new mystery/thriller.
Deadly Bayou, the book I'm working on now, comes from a recurring dream that character Jayne has in Deadly Memories.
