No kidding. I've met too many people who write for years, fiddling and dabbling, writing immense world building bibles or pages and pages of character sketches, who never seem to get around to writing The End. You can't know how powerful those two words are until you write them yourself.

I'm in the middle of a series set in the Nocturne Falls Universe, which is a shared-world series. All these stories are at least somewhat based in Russian folklore, which is my current obsession.

Deadlines.
It doesn't sound very glamourous or creative or fun, but if I don't have a deadlines, there's nothing for readers to read.
The fun is in the writing - I hang out in a chat room with other writers and we do lots of sprints and challenges.
I also make the writing fun for myself by including as many easter eggs and in-jokes as I can manage. They don't all make it to the final copy - sometimes they're too obscure or throw off the pacing - but it keeps me entertained.
