Currently working on the new novel. Started it on 25th December 2023 and looking to have wrapped the first draft by the end of this month at the latest.

Eyelids fluttering, Glenda woke to wind-blown strands of hair in her eyes, as cold from the concrete sunk into her cheek. And pushing to her feet, she slowed ...as the headless form in front of her raised an all-too-familiar hand to its stump of a neck.

Hmmm. Not sure, to be honest. For the kind of stuff I read, there's a lot of horror and harm lurking in the background. Although, now I think about it, Chris Moore's Pine Cove might be an option. Unless the demon Catch has come back somehow.

Honestly, what and how I read gets very sporadic. What I read might vary between something new or something old.
Currently re-reading Lee Markham's "The Knife", which is as stark as it is brilliant. What I'm tempted by more and more is the new Harry Hole novel "The Thirst", by Jo Nesbo. I've read all the other Harry Hole novels, and they've all just blown me away. Personal favourites are probably Cockroaches and The Snowman.

Not sure there's any real mystery in my life - at least right now. Hopefully, that's a blessing...
One thing I've been intrigued by is what can happen when we sleep. Keep your eyes peeled for an upcoming edition of a particular horror zine to see what I mean.

Favourite fictional couple. Hmmmmmm. Off the top of my head, I'd go with Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Mary Jane Watson. What you have is a regular, sometimes immature young man (albeit a superhuman) and a gorgeous and vivacious redhead - and they both adore each other. Aside from the spider-powers, I'd say that was pretty realistic.
Of course, I own several hundred original issue Spidey titles, so I might be biased.

From a short story I wrote. I had the idea of a childhood terror resurfacing to claim the protagonist, and thought: "How do you deal with that? The warning from decades earlier that you're living on borrowed time has now true - how do you deal with it?"

I'll tell you one thing that inspires me - and that's what I don't see. The nature of horror is often painted as something that solely serves to terrorise a human being, and it's a pretty human view. Even if your monster is human, you can't always expect it to have a human sensibility.

Currently finishing up a WIP of a werewolf short. This is one of two stories that are partly inspired by people I know: one from Toronto and one from Pennsylvania.

You might not write a masterpiece on your first attempt. But if you don't stick at it, FINISH each work you start and hone your craft, you won't write one at all. Dig in for the long haul.

I'd have to say it's the crafting of something that moves people. I suppose anyone could just 'write' a story, but I'd want to craft something. There's always that element in horror or dark fiction of something that's unexpected, something leftfield. To snare the reader and draw them in, and catch them unawares? That's cool.

For the most part, I don't get writer's block - so I'm aware I must be some kind of fortunate. In the instances where my creativity slows, I'll take a time out from writing: I'll read, cook, watch a film, etc.
