“Does Patriot’s History of the United States make better citizens? Ask this teacher.”

“Dear Dr. Schweikart,

I teach Citizenship classes to Turkish and Middle Eastern immigrants. I noticed my class had a citizenship exam passing rate of less than 70% using State and Federal curriculum.

Back in October I started using A Patriot’s History of the United States as our core resource. Since then, our passing rate and average score has surpassed 95%. What I have also noticed is the attitude shift the class participants have toward the United States. As of late they enter the class with an anti-American perception, only graduating with a sense of pride and humility that a nation as great as ours would welcome them.

Your book needs to be the foundation of every American history academic institution. What my students have taken away is a deep felt appreciation for the toil and sacrifice of those who made America.

Thank you again for your work,

Sincerely,

Bob”

Christmas News, Blues, and Joy

Here are some odds and ends:

*If you haven't picked up a copy of "Rockin' the Wall" yet, it's the perfect Christmas present for anyone over 15! Rockin', entertaining, and moving, you'll find this will touch just about anyone. Go here to order: http://www.rockinthewall.com . By the way, Glenn Beck has our trailer up on his website now, on the video side.

*If you want an autographed copy of any of our books, including Patriot's History of the United States for a gift, e-mail Larry Schweikart about instructions. There is still time to overnight it and get it under the tree.

*In political news, the tax bill passed (shrug) but the Omnibus pork monster failed (yayyyyy!). Although there will be no new tax hikes, and a piddly SS tax rollback, the cost was more unemployment benefits (so that cowardly Republicans wouldn't have to vote on cutting off unemployment at Christmas). Unfortunately, if they don't fix this in the next session, the benefits vote will come up again . . . AT CHRISTMAS!

*Thanks for making Patriot's History such an incredibly successful book. We are closing in on half-a-million in print!!

*Finally, one word for the season (and if you don't know what it means, look it up):

IMMANUEL

What Would The Founders Say?

America is at a crossroads. We face two options: continue our descent toward big government, higher taxes, less individual liberty, and more debt or pull our country back on the path our Founding Fathers planned for us. But that path isn't always so easy to see.

Historian Larry Schweikart tackles some of the key issues confronting our nation today: education, government bailouts, gun control, health care, the environment, and more. For each he asks, "What would the founders say?" and sets out to explore our history and offer wisdom to help us get back on track. What would really be compatible with the vision that Washington, Jefferson, Madison, and the other founders had for America? What Would the Founders Say? is sure to delight anyone looking for a little clarity on tough issues.
