DEATH IN THE MOUTH

I’m contributing to a new horror anthology. It’s being kickstarted, so if you’re able, a pledge would be appreciated! Details below:

Death in the Mouth: Original Horror From Around the World

Cartoonist and writer Sloane Leong and writer Cassie Hart have partnered to launch a Kickstarter campaign for DEATH IN THE MOUTH, a horror anthology showcasing BIPOC and other ethnically marginalized writers and artists from around the world. It will feature twenty prose stories spanning the distant past to the far future, real and fictive worlds, all while exploring new and unique manifestations of horror. Each story will also be accompanied by an original black and white illustration by a unique artist.

We’ve invited authors like C Pam Zhang (How Much of These Hills Is Gold), Darcie Little Badger (Elatsoe), Jewelle Gomez (The Gilda Stories), An Owomoyela (Abandonware), Karin Lowachee (Warchild), Jahra Wasasala (MOTHER/JAW), K-Ming Chang (Bestiary), Rachel & Sean Qitsualik-Tinsley (The Raven and the Loon), and more to contribute stories.

Artists you can look forward to seeing illustrate these tales include Michael Deforge, Joy San, Jabari Weathers ,Makoto Chi, Allissa Chan, Pinchas Segal, Alicia Feng, and Natalie Hall. We also anticipate welcoming many new and underrepresented authors and artists through our open call. “Like many other creative fields, the horror scene in the Western world has been overwhelmingly white for a long time. Because of this, not all editors are attuned to non-Western narratives and haven’t necessarily cultivated an appreciation for stories from those traditions,” said Sloane Leong, editor of Death in the Mouth. “That’s where we – Sloane and Cassie – come in. We’re both voracious readers and authors with a knowledge and taste for stories outside the cultural mainstream. We’re running this campaign so that we can provide support to BIPOC authors and artists while also getting this book directly to the wonderful readers we know are out there, who crave unique and entrancing stories from writers all over the globe.”

Death in the Mouth is now available for preorder on Kickstarter.

MATRYOSHKA & more!

The fourth book in the Warchild Universe mosaic series, MATROYSHKA, is finished (but there's still editing to do). In the meantime, here is the backcover blurb:

Jascha Terisov and his broken family are refugees. At three years old, his mining colony was attacked by alien enemies and the destruction thrust his parents, older brother Yuri, and younger sister into separate relief camps on different planets. Though his sister was eventually reunited with him and his mother, Yuri was lost—apparently signed onto a merchant ship as a child.

Now eighteen years later, Jascha works long hours to provide for his sister’s medical care. Life as refugees on Mars is not the promise of stability they were told. When Jascha is approached by covert agents posing as officers from the Department of Justice, they offer him a deal he can’t refuse: go back to deep space to locate his brother Yuri—the monetary compensation will set his family up for life and afford his sister the care she needs. The catch? Yuri is a pirate on the run and this mission threatens to place Jascha in his own brother’s crosshairs.

Matryoshka is the fourth book based in the universe of the award-winning science fiction mosaic series that began with Warchild.

Warchild's ebook has recently been lowered to $2.99. now you can get all 3 of the novels for that price, and the Omake is set at $4.99. Check it HERE!

And! My good friend Derek Silver has released his new novel THE PRINCESS ELECTRIC! It's a portal fantasy like you've never read before - check it out!

THE DYSTOPIA TRIPTYCH

My 3 stories appear across this Dystopia Triptych:

Lyceum
Survival Guide
Sakura

My approach was to tell a story about how dystopia feels — through the emotion of grief. Florizell Ito, an AI programmer and owner of Sakura Labs, loses her son to a car accident. What emerges from that is in part because of her grief. “Lyceum” is told through her POV. “Survival Guide” is told through the son’s best friend’s POV, and “Sakura” is told through the son’s father’s POV. I really fell in love with these characters.
