I opened the neatly typed file –

the copy stored in my mind.

I browsed through ‘SCENE ONE’ –

where I confront lizard as he

to the ants is so unkind;

‘Get married before
you leave!’ Then, my friend did speak:

‘I hope you don’t
mind this thought I’d love to leak?’

I looked at him and
asked him to go ahead

and express
himself. ‘I’d prefer,’ he said,

‘you get married to
the teacher before we leave.’

I was shocked and
almost tore the sleeve

of my shirt on the
thorn of a prickly plant

I’d brushed past. ‘Wouldn’t
that upset

All your charming dreams – have they come to fruition?

Unclear still is the path of your vision?

Grab your thinking cap (it’s not late) and re-dream.

Unless you move, you’d get stuck and without a beam.

Search hard to see what you could haul in with your net.

Take time to explore, exploit and update.

you’re all dying straight to hop

on the train and go
get that script but flop

sprints before his time; first thing first.

At the right
moment, we’d all slake our thirst.

‘Just as we gather
here today, same thing tomorrow;

watching us are
those who’d like to take your place and sow;

‘anyone late might
just be courting some sorrow;

we’d not wait

‘The truth is my
husband wants me to be

a poppet – in fact,
nothing more than a zombie

‘doing those things
he orders me to do:

move your leg, I
move; smile – don’t argue;

‘I do; jump and
dance, I do just that.

He doesn’t want me to
think; he’s mad

‘if I complain I’ve
pains in any part

of my body and
during festivals, he dies

‘if I say the
children needs two or one item

‘Pray, as I go with
you, your fighting parents

do not leave on my
head a nasty dent

‘with their
horsewhip or dreadful-looking pestle.

You’re aware my
wife and two girls did travel

‘last week to go
see her aged mother?

They’re too young
to come back and their father

‘not see!’ But
moaning still was the young fellow:

‘Please, help my
mummy!’ Teacherit did follow

in Farmit’s home as he with his partner fought,

their children cried and for help desperately sought.

The fight started with Farmit cracking his whip,

hitting his wife on her head, back and hip.

Mrs Farmit screamed and stiffly did struggle;

her flailing arms grabbed Farmit as she did hustle.

‘You’d kill me today! What have I done?

You’d kill me today!’ Mrs Farmit did mourn.

‘He’d come over there
and give you the whack!’

‘Do you know if
he’s whacking aunty back

‘in the house?’
Warcryit’s innocuous question

put his stepbrother
in desperation.

He said: ‘Let’s
chase after the silly goat

or we’d spend the
cold night in shacks by the road.

‘Look, I’m tired!
You’d go work in the farm,

carry loads on your
head and do the tramp

the oncoming wave;

three other lions
rushed to see if they could save

‘their brother
which was in trouble

though the source
left them all in a puzzle.

‘I sneaked from one
coconut palm to the other

far up the seashore
towards the monster’s shelter.

‘Nearing the foot
of the rocky hill, I quietly

reached the safe
side and crawled up on my belly.

To be blessed by superiors as missionary

To the orphanage in our vicinity

And sought I could help guide with my creativity

Visiting at my leisure; I agreed wholeheartedly

And gave her the ticket to join our community

And watch my play; she took it as she'd seen the poster

Which promised to the family it'd be a booster.

Then, she
