Thursday Tidbit: Why Indie Publishing Will Continue to Grow

To varying degrees, big and small publishing houses are worried about the Indie Publishing trend. I say to varying degrees because some of the larger or more arrogant ones think they can ignore or bully their way past the threat of losing more and more talented, ambitious authors to the siren call of Indie Publishing. As Indie grows, submissions to traditional publishers have slowed. The submissions they receive are more and more weighted toward new authors, which means they bring more risk and less in the way of an established readership to fill the publisher's coffers. In addition, more and more authors are asking for their rights back so they can republish the books themselves.

Thursday Twisted Links

I understand...readers get sick and tired of authors whining at them about reviews. I get it. You buy our books, you don't owe us anything. Zero. Zip. Nada. Writers and readers have a symbiotic relationship. We write the books and you read them. It's a sweet deal and mostly it works just fine. It's supply and demand at its finest. However, there's a back office component to the deal that readers don't necessarily understand or care about. But you really should care, because it can affect your happiness as a reader.

Sam’s Sunday Snippet

In the end, it might take losing everything they have to make them realize how much they have to lose.

Thursday Tidbit – Have You Made the Switch Yet?

You thought you'd never join the digital revolution. The very thought of "hold in your hand" books going away in favor of digital words on a reading device made you sad. Month after month you lovingly dusted your bookshelves that are becoming ever more crammed with beloved books. But then your husband/parent/significant other finally started to look askance at your burgeoning collection. Snide remarks were made about the dust, the clutter, the expense of ALL. THOSE. BOOKS. In desperation you buy an ereader, thinking you'll only use it at certain times...in certain places. But then it happens...

Sam’s Sunday Snippets

When your name is Valentine, February’s pretty much gonna suck.

Valentine Smith H-A-T-E-S the month of February. The constant jokes about her name and comparisons to the chubby guy with arrows are enough to make her want to run and hide for the entire month.

Ha! I must be crazy. But here goes.

Stretchy pants.    Edits.    Chicken and noodles.

God I love stretchy pants. Don't you? When I think of all the years, when I was young and stupid, that I wore tight clothes that threatened to dissect me in several places, I wonder I even survived it. But those days are over. As I get older I've learned to appreciate the wonder of soft, comfortable clothes
